described - in that the installation cannot install the components required. The "components" of software are basically the files used by the installed program to help it run as smoothly as possible. These errors all originate due to the fact that your PC cannot access the required files or folders it needs. This could be due to a number of reasons including the fact you may not have sufficient privilages to install software or amend files on your error 2908 corel draw x6 profile. This prevents Windows from accessing the files it needs and so Error 2908 will appear. You may also have a corrupt / damaged registry on your system, which will prevent the installation of any software onto your PC. How To Fix Error 2908 Step 1 - Run Step With Different User Profiles Since this problem is mainly caused by either faulty profiles or profiles that do not have the correct permissions, it would be wise to run the setup in different user profiles. You should attempt to install the software in all the profiles on your system, until you find one that works. You should then either: change the permissions of the profile that it would not install on, or delete it as it may be corrupt. Profiles have different permissions allowing different users access to a select level of file. If the user cannot be trusted with installing software, this could be childrens account, then Windows will not allow the installation to go ahead. Always make sure you have the correct permissions before you attempt to install software. Step 2 - Turn Off User Profiles Before Setup If the above step did not work, this would be your next step. we got the following problem. If any of Add-in Express for Office and .NET product packages are installed, uninstalled and re-installed for the second time, the "Error 2908″ message is shown a tremendous number of times. It is obvious that the message is shown for every file included into the package. What is worse, when the setup program is complete, you get this error again when you install or uninstall any MSI-based product. That is, from the common point of view, Windows becomes inoperable. Windows Installer Error Messages doesn't provide any useful info. If you google for "Error 2908″, you'll find out that this error occurs for a number of applications. Workarounds exist for installing Office 2000 on Windows 98 or ME, NET Framework 1.1, Visual Studio 2005. But none of those workarounds worked for us. Then we found an interesting post on the www.eggheadcafe.com forum: they added Crystal Reports merge modules to their setup and got this error. As you may assume, Crystal Reports supporters sent poor devils back to Microsoft. This was somehow backed up by Orca that reported the following incomprehensible warning message: "Feature ‘DefaultFeature' has XXXX components. This could cause problems on Win9X systems. You should try to have fewer than 817 components per feature." To verify this assumption, we created a simple setup with some 2000 files. Nevertheless, this setup program has run through the install/uninstall/install procedure successfully. But when we added a custom
