This particular error had stumped me for a while, but I finally found the cause. As others had pointed out before, it can have alot to do with some obstruction in the print path, the gears, or ink on the clear plastic encoder strip. You're on the right track - I found the the purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) was not lubricated well enough from factory. If you lubricate the canon mp237 error 5100 sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps) the mechanism can now slide more freely, and the unit can park the head properly without giving you the dreaded head homing error 5100 (or E-2-2 on the LCD display) Keep in mind that this repair will probably require you to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. There are two screws behind the printer, and two in front for each corrosponding side panel (the front screws are behind the grey front panel of the printer - open the top cover to see the clips which hold the front cover on) Hope this helps some of you out.Wayne Lischynski - Ebytes Computers[emailprotected] by lischynski on May 15, 2007 at 11:19am Add comment Please sign in to comment I had the same error at Pixma iP5200, after cleaning the web from waste ink tank and resetting. It printed 50 sheets and after that I received that error code. After I saw your post here, I finnaly realized that was not a probleam of greasing but the little spring that rise the lever that block print head was in a bad position. I remediated that and work now fine. Thanks a lot for that idea. Note that I've cleaned the web from waste ink tank after more than 200.000(!) sheets printed on "fast" especially, and more than 3 litters of INKTEC black ink u

PS: My continuous ink supply system is basically a giant bottle of ink with a tube coming out of it, which is hooked up to a hole in the cartridge that my dad drilled in there. I checked the book, but couldn't find any obstruction and the same message keeps appearing. Can you help, please? Submitted: 5 years ago. Category:Printers Share this conversation Expert: Andy replied5 years ago. HiThis error indicates that : 1. There is some piece of paper / paper clip / sticker stuck inside printer and you are not able to access it. In this case you need to remove all ink cartridges, turn off printer, then turn it upside down and shake it few times. If still not working then you need to open it up as much you can to see if something is stuck2. The electric sensor which receives signal from the mechanical paper sensor to detect jam has issues. Either there is dust on it or its gone bad and needs replacement. You should first open up the printer and blow air in it (using compressed air can) to remove all dust. If it doesnt work then this repair will cost you much more than buying a new Printer. If its in warranty certainly call CanonFeel free to ask any question or concern you may have.
