to do with some obstruction in the print path, the gears, or ink on the clear plastic encoder strip. You're on the right track - I found the the purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) was not lubricated well enough from factory. If you lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps) the mechanism can now slide more freely, and the unit can park the head properly without giving you the dreaded head homing error 5100 (or E-2-2 on the LCD display) Keep in mind that this repair will probably require you to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. There are two screws behind the printer, and two in front for each corrosponding side panel (the front screws are behind the grey front panel of the printer - open the top cover to see the clips which hold the front cover on) Hope this helps some of you out.Wayne Lischynski - Ebytes Computers[emailprotected] by lischynski on May

My dad recently hooked up a continuous ink supply system to my Canon MP150 printer. Now when I print, I frequently get error messages, specifically, Service Error 5100. Can anyone tell me how to fix this without taking my printer apart? Thanks. Oh, and don't tell me fixes that only work in Windows XP or Vista or 2000, or Me... because I use Windows 7. Thanks. PS: My continuous ink supply system is basically a giant bottle of ink with a tube coming out of it, which is hooked up to a hole in the cartridge that my dad drilled in there. Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement philippus Thread Starter Joined: Nov 1, 2007 Messages: 75 I recently installed a Canon Pixma MP150 on my Dell P3 (Win 2K SP4) and have, so far, been unsuccessful in getting it to work at all. The installation itself seemed to go correctly, but in a nutshell -- the printer will not operate in any of it's "multifunction" modes. With apologies for what will be a long post, I will try to describe the exact sequence of events and symptoms: PRINTING After turning the printer on: 1) The green "On/Off" button flashes, a single sheet of paper feeds through the printer, the printer performs what sounds like a cartridge cleaning, the green "On/Off" button light turns steady and the LED readout reads "1", but the "Black Ink" light is flashing also. 2) After a couple of seconds, the printer makes another "cartridge cleaning" type noise, the green "On/Off" button starts flashing again and the yellow "Alarm" light starts flashing along with the already flashing yellow "Black Ink" light. At that time the LED starts flashing alternately between "E" and "2" (The paper is, however, loaded correctly) 3) At this time, If I attempt to print anything, I get an onscreen notice of "Service Error 5100", which suggests that I "Cancel printing and then turn the printer off and then back on" In the "Status Monitor" that appears on the screen if I open "Ink Details" on the menu I get the graphic readout of ink levels and the black cartridge shows empty. This all seems simple enough, I am out of black ink...BUT...I cannot print using only the apparently full "Color" cartridge either. I also attempted to fool the ink status monitor by removing and replacing the black ink cartr
