Is there a simpler way to plot an ErrorListPlot with only y error bars? Nothing is mentioned in the documentation. plotting documentation undocumented share|improve this question edited error bars mathematica Apr 12 '13 at 14:39 asked Apr 12 '13 at 13:46 Ajasja 8,76422881 Perhaps I should change this into a self answered Q/A? What's the simplest way to plot an ErrorListPlot?:) –Ajasja Apr 12 '13 at 13:56 I agree with the Q/A idea. –Mr.Wizard♦ Apr 12 '13 at 14:12 @Mr.Wizard done –Ajasja Apr 12 '13 at 14:43 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 10 down vote accepted Indeed it seems there is a simpler way: Instead of ErrorListPlot[{{{x1, y1}, ErrorBar[err1]}, {{x2, y2}, ErrorBar[err2]}, ...}] Just do ErrorListPlot[{{x1, y1, dy1}, {x2, y2, dy2} ...}, ...}] Here is an example: Needs["ErrorBarPlots`"] ErrorListPlot[{{1, 2, 0.5}, {3, 4, 0.1}, {5, 6, 0}}, PlotRange -> All, Frame -> True, Axes -> False] Why this is not documented is beyond me. share|improve this answer edited Apr 12 '13 at 15:00 answered Apr 12 '13 at 14:43 Ajasja 8,76422881 2 If you type ??ErrorListPlotyou get the transformation being used: {{ErrorBarPlotsPrivate
x_?NumericQ, ErrorBarPlotsPrivate
y_?NumericQ, ErrorBarPlotsPrivate
e_? NumericQ} :> (ErrorBarPlotsPrivateerror[ N[{ErrorBarPlotsPrivate
x, ErrorBarPlotsPrivate

I know of ErrorBarFunction, but then I have to recreate the automatic ErrorBarFunction... Here is my current butt ugly hack (I draw the plot twice): data = Table[{x, f[x], RandomReal[]}, {f, {Exp[2 #] &, Exp}}, {x, -5, 2, 0.2}]; Needs["ErrorBarPlots`"] Show@{ErrorListPlot[data, PlotStyle -> Directive[Thick, PointSize -> 0., Opacity@0.5], ImageSize -> Large], ListPlot[data[[All, All, {1, 2}]], PlotStyle -> Directive[Thick, PointSize -> 0.015], ImageSize -> Large] } What is a more elegant way of doing this? Something like: ErrorListPlot[data, PlotStyle -> Directive[Thick, PointSize -> 0., Opacity@0.5], ImageSize -> Large, ErrorBarFunction -> {Opacity@0.5,Automatic}] plotting packages share|improve this question edited Jun 11 '13 at 19:51 J.
