Solved Exmerge Error - Cannot identify the user with the msExchMailboxGuid Posted on 2007-12-10 Exchange 1 Verified Solution 14 Comments 4,676 Views Last Modified: 2011-08-25 We recently had an exchange failure. To make a long story short we ended up running a repair and recovery. The exchange DB is back online now. After the repair some users were not able to delete old email or receive messages. We ran Exmerge, exported the email to a pst, recreated the exchange mailbox and imported the data. This worked well on all accounts except 1. We found 1 user lost some email. So, we have a backup copy, created a recovery storage group, and restored the information store to the recovery group. When I run Exmerge it cannot match the GUID for any of the mailboxes that we had to recreate. I saw the article about creating a new user account (with the same name) and changing the GUID with ADSIEdit. Since the user account still exists, and has email that we need to keep, how can I restore his missing email from the backup? I saw a microsoft article that wants us to create a new information store, and copy the recovery DB to the new store. Only problem is that we cannot create another store (Exchange standard version limits) and the drive doesn't have enough free space for a 3rd copy of the store. I have done the restore process of a database during the desired time and tried exmerge, but I get an error message in the exmerge log and the user I want is not listed Management wants to look a past http://forums.msexchange.org/Restore_Mailbox_of_delete_(terminated_user)/m_1800421100/tm.htm employee's email, but it seems that since the user account was removedis no longer part of the domain, I can not get to it? If so, you can create a new user (without a mailbox) and reassociate the mailbox to that user. If the mailbox no longer appears in ESM, then you can use a Recovery Storage Group. What is the error in the ExMerge log? _____________________________Regards, Dean T. situations it removes the requirement of building up an additional recovery server in order to recover mailbox data (to recover public http://ad-exh.blogspot.com/2009/10/how-to-recover-data-from-deleted.html folder data, the recovery server is still required). However, when we http://www.yqcomputer.com/88_55959_1.htm restore the backup into RSG, we are unable to use the ExMerge utility to extract data from the mailboxes that have been deleted from the original mailbox store.Overview of the Recovery Storage GroupPrior to Exchange Server 2003, if you wanted to recover some mailbox data from the error cannot backup, you needed to set up a separate Active Directory (AD) forest on a recovery server and restore the backup into this recovery computer. With the RSG feature, this additional recovery server is not required to recover data from a mailbox store in scenarios where both the following conditions are true:• The logical information in AD about the storage error cannot identify group and mailboxes remains intact and same as before the recovery. That's to say, the mailbox you want to recover must not be deleted or purged from the system, or moved to another mailbox store.• You want to recover data from a single mailbox, a single database, or simultaneously a group of databases within a single storage group. The database added into RSG must be from a server within the same Administrative Group; furthermore, after we add a database into RSG, we can then only add databases from the same Storage Group. After you create a RSG and add databases to it, you can either restore online backup sets or copy offline database files to the RSG (please note that enough disk space is necessary for the recovered database in RSG). Then you can use the Exchange Server 2003 version of the Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Merge Wizard (Exmerge.exe) utility or the Recover Mailbox Data Wizard to extract data from the recovered databases in the RSG to the mailbox in the original regular storage group. How
All, Can someone please tell me how to get Exmerge to extract a mailbox from an Exchange Server 2003 Recovery Store when it gets this error: [13:39:21] Error! Cannot identify the user with the msExchMailboxGuid \89\7B\827\C2\A2\FDA\B7f\A1\0D\7D\A1\1EB. The legacyExchangeDN is /O=CALENDOW/OU=MAINPO/CN=RECIPIENTS/CN=xxxxx I know this is due to the user no longer being in Active Directory and that the mailbox "knows" the SID of the no longer existant user. How do I work through this? Thanks in advance! Dwight Hutchinson Top HELP WITH EXMERGE -- Cannot identify the user with the msExchMailboxGuid by Jason T. P » Sun, 27 Mar 2005 00:09:36 I have used EXMERGE pretty extensively and have never seen this error. Granted I have not tried using it on a Recovery Store. Have you tried to re-created the AD account and map it to the mailbox on the recovery store? I know this isn't any help, but hopefully this will bump the thread back to the top for more visibility. Dismount your example store that you created and
