Handling exceptions thrown by the Report Server Web service is an important part of the applications that you develop because you can return useful information to users when errors occur. This section contains specific information about handling exceptions, preventing user input that is not valid, and returning meaningful error information to users. For general information about exception handling, see "Handling and Throwing Exceptions" in the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK documentation. In This Sect

So this document has initiated in order to make the error handling mechanism simpler.ObjectiveThis document briefs you to make error handling mechanism in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) when user gets any database related issues while executing the SSRS reports. So if user gets any such issues, our report will show friendly and useful information instead of rich (original) error message on report body section. With this mechanism, we can als

The underlying cause is a divide by zero. I could jump through the necessary work arounds to avoid the divide by zero, but it might be simplier to mask the #Error text and show a blank cell. Is it possible to hide the #Error error handling in and just display nothing? Edit The expression for the text might display #Error is something along these lines: Fields!Field1.Value / Fields!ValueThatMightBeZero.Value I could work around this with some ugly checking, but it might be easier to just catch the #Error. (A straight iif check around the express doesn't work because SSRS evaluates both the true and false clauses first; if it gets a divide by zero on either clause, it will return #Error, even if that clause wouldn't have been used). reporting-services share|improve this question edited Feb 5 '12 at 0:31 asked Feb 4 '12 at 20:36 poke 1,26651630 add a comment| 8 Answers 8 active oldest votes up vote 11 down vote accepted There is an IsError function, but it won't reduce the code you need to handle this. If you don't like the usual iif work arounds, then I think you need to use your own embedded code in the report. In that code you can have a try catch handler. Create a function that you can call with =Code.MyDivider(Fields!Field1.Value , Fields!ValueThatMightBeZero.Value) share|improve this answer answered Feb 6 '12 at 15:27 Jamie F 14.7k33052 +1 for custom code - IM

My problem is that the Fields!DutyRate.Value can contain non numerical values such as "Free". This means any rows with the word "Free" in them causes an #Error. This is OK as such but I would like to get SSRS to display something other than #Error. In fact I would like to to display "F" instead. Many thanks reporting-services share|improve this question edited Oct 9 '12 at 9:14 Sklivvz♦ 20.4k2381152 asked Oct 9 '12 at 9:10 Ross 1751213 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted You can use an IIF (inline if statement) and the IsNumeric function.
