Sometimes we receive broken XML data (ie- syntax, no ending tag, etc.). SimpleXMLElement throws an error and kills my script, how could assign something like $xml_body = new SimpleXMLElement ($adf_xml); and catch the parse exception? Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'String could not be parsed as XML' in /home//Work//script/email_leads.php:46 Stack trace: 0 /home//Work//script/email_leads.php(46): SimpleXMLElement->__construct('http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4137645/php-catching-a-simplexmlelement-parse-error 1 /home//Work//script/email_leads.php(97): generateFeed() 2 {main} xml simplexml php share|improve this question edited Mar 5 '13 at 10:41 hakre 134k26216390 asked Nov 9 '10 at 19:31 Weston Watson 1,34431522 closed as too localized by Till Helge, Alexander, Gordon, Ocramius, hakre Mar 5 '13 at 10:43 This question is unlikely to help any future visitors; it is only relevant to a small geographic area, a specific moment in time, or an extraordinarily narrow situation that is not generally applicable to the worldwide audience of the internet. Uhm, are you sure that using SimpleXML here is what you want? If you expect non-wellformed data you shouldn't use draconian xml certainly, but use some DOM parser instead. –NikiC Nov 9 '10 at 19:35 this is a chron'd script that gets input from an INBOX (imap)... –Weston Watson Nov 9 '10 at 20:16 possible duplicate of php: catch exception and continue execution, is it possible? –hakre Mar 5 '13 at 10:43 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 10 d

I would want to parse my document anyway up to errors or try to fix errors automatically. Is that possible? I have tried this, but it isn't working $xml = simplexml_load_file($url, "SimpleXMLElement", xml error message array(LIBXML_NOERROR, LIBXML_ERR_NONE)); if (!$xml) { echo "Failed loading XML\n"; foreach(libxml_get_errors() as $error) { echo "\t", $error->message; } } php xml xml-parsing simplexml share|improve this question edited Oct 18 '12 at 14:24 hakre 134k26216390 asked Oct 18 '12 at 12:33 sparkle 2,03293874 What did you try so far? Your script only outputs the errors. I don't see anything you do to actually fix something here. –hakre Oct 18 '12 at 14:28 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 8 down vote accepted From PHP DOC simplexml_load_file options should be int not array Replace $xml = simplexml_load_file($url, "SimpleXMLElement", array(LIBXML_NOERROR, LIBXML_ERR_NONE)); ^------- You are using array With $xml = simplexml_load_file($url, "SimpleXMLElement", LIBXML_NOERROR | LIBXML_ERR_NONE); Instead of suppressing this errors you can as well fix the xml Example bad.xml
