View Full Document Crossover Error Rate The crossover error biometric error rates rate (CER) is the point at which Type I errors and Type II errors are equal, as shown in Figure 9-2. All biometric systems can be calibrated to reduce either the false acceptance or false rejection rates to near zero. Unfortunately, calibrating the system to reduce or eliminate Type I errors generally raises the rate of Type II errors. A biometric system could be calibrated such that the sensitivity is turned all the way down, so that it accepts everyone. Of course, this would produce a large number of false positives, but zero false negatives. Likewise, the sensitivity could be turned all the way up so that the system doesn’t accept anyone, eliminating the false positives but producing a large number of false negatives. The CER is an accurate way to compare the real accuracy of various biometric systems. The smaller the CER, the more accurate it is. In other words, a system with a CER of 3 percent is more accurate than one with a CER of 5 percent. Failure to Enroll Rate All biometric systems require subjects to enroll, or present

Banner, exactly the advice passes through Just a security Proof system. Although these http://azhow.net/how-to/What-Is-a-Crossover-Error-Rate-CER%3F/135447/ systems are highly accurate, It really is impossible to create Only a system that is certainly completely accurate. Crossover Malfunction rate, or CER, is measurement that http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/E/equal_error_rate.html quantifies the Malfunction rate within an authentication system.
Authentication Errors Two Kinds of errors can occur when determining exactly the authenticity of an Test error rate to accessibility an tips or security Proof system. A fictitious acceptance Malfunction Happens when A system incorrectly accepts awful authentication advice. Just a false rejection Malfunction occurs when Just a transaction that has Proper credentials is incorrectly rejected. System Design Even within optimal situation, It's hopeless for Layout an authentication crossover error rate system that eliminates both false acceptances and bogus rejections. Somewhat, exactly the Amounts of fictitious approval or rejection are governed by precisely the sensitivity of precisely the system. The Link between fictitious acceptance rates and bogus rejection rates is always Bad that's, While fictitious rejection rates diminish, fictitious acceptance rates go upward. System designers are tasked along with figuring Outside precisely the Suitable bogus acceptance and bogus rejection rates for each system they Layout. CER Definition Crossover Malfunction rate is defined As exactly the sensitivity calibration point In which an authentication system Layout has an Equivalent bogus endorsement rate and false rejection rate. If you Story false approval and false rejection rates In different sensitivities on Only a Cartesian graph, exactly the CER is the point In which exactly the two lines intersect. Crossover Malfunction rate is also Generally referred to As equivalent Malfunction rate, or EER. Equal error rate is abbreviated as EER. Equal error rate (EER) is a biometric security system algorithm used to predetermines the threshold values for its false acceptance rate and its false rejection rate. When the rates are equal, the common value is referred to as the equal error rate. The value indicates that the proportion of false acceptances is equal to the proportion of false rejections. The lower the equal error rate value, the higher the accuracy of the biometric system. Equal error rate may also be referred to as a crossover rate or crossover error rate (CER).
