with the final one doing the trick for me. Fix 1:- - Boot with your Windows system CD - lsass.exe application error failed to initialize properly Go into the repair console - Now change directory to the C:\windows\system32\config (cd blah blah) - type: rename security security.bak - enter - type: copy c:\windows\repair\security . - enter - type: exit - https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/lsass-exe-system-error-371205/ enter - or reset the computer manually (Alternate description for same fix) 1. Boot into the recovery console using your Windows XP CD. 2. Type: CHDIR sytem32 and press Enter. 3. Type: CHDIR config and press Enter. 4. Type: Rename Security Security.bak and press Enter. 5. Type: Copy C:\Windows\repair\security and press Enter. 6. Type: Exit and press Enter (this will restart your computer). I chose the one closest to todays date and it recovered it fine. Reboot and bingo! It's back. (Well it was for me…!)" Fix 2:- How to recover from a corrupted registry that prevents Windows XP from starting http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 When you try to start or restart your Windows XP-based computer, you may receive one of the following error messages: Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SOFTWARE Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or its log or alternate System error: Lsass.exe When trying to update a password the return status indicates that th

There is not much else to propose at this stage, a bounty won't bring much more. –Gnoupi Oct 30 '09 at 15:30 I solve this by reinstall new windows but I want know if I face it again solve it easier!!! –Am1rr3zA Oct 31 '09 at 18:24 What Internet Security software do you run? –Umber Ferrule Nov 1 '09 at 21:37 @Am1rr3zA, you were given steps to solve it, but you didn't try them. So there is no way to give you a sure solution now, since you don't have the situation anymore. When lsass (or any critical system program) is corrupted, there is not much else to do than what was proposed already to you. –Gnoupi Nov 2 '09 at 8:23 | show 1 more comment 7 Answers 7 active oldest votes up vote 13 down vote accepted +50 From your post, I understand that you cannot manage to boot or logon into Windows. lsass.exe is a favorite target of viruses, and it's likely that a virus has destroyed lsass.exe while trying to infect your machine.
