Xp Repair Lsass.exe System Error Started by Huffer , May 27 2007 05:30 AM Please log in to reply 2 replies to this topic #1 Huffer Huffer Members 8 posts OFFLINE Local time:04:06 AM Posted 27 May 2007 - 05:30 AM I am trying a repair install on an Acer laptop. I had previously tried a registry repair as per the Microsoft instructions. This advised me that some of the original install files did not exist (sorry I can't remember which ones, I have been trying to resolve this for several weeks now without success) Having started a repair install, the m/c gets to the reboot stage and says setup is being restarted, then I get the following message: lsass.exe system error "When trying to update a password the return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is not correct." The m/c then reboots and the process starts all over again. The ultimate is to save the data and do a new install, but I just don't like giving up on these things. I have an Advent T9100 PC with Windows XP Home Edition. I think it's OEM-installed, and exe system the system hive on OEM installation creates passwords and user accounts that did not exist previously. Before the problem I was running on SP2, system restore was on by default. My PC did not come with an XP setup disk, just an Advent recovery disk, therefore I am using the 6 Windows XP Home SP2 setup floppy disks to get into the recovery console. If exe system error I run a non-destructive recovery from my Advent system recovery CD it does not solve the problem. Here are the details of my PC: http://www.uktsupport.co.uk/advent/pc/t9100.htm While logging in/loading into a user account on Windows, I shut down my PC via the power button. When I restarted the PC I received the following error: Windows XP could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM I then followed this Microsoft Support article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 However, I didn't read the following: "Warning - Do not use the procedure that is described in this article if your computer has an OEM-installed operating system. The system hive on OEM installations creates passwords and user accounts that did not exist previously. If you use the procedure that is described in this article, you may not be able to log back into the recovery console to restore the original registry hives." Fortunately I can still log back into the recovery console, so I copied a system.bak file from my Compaq PC and placed it in the config folder. I then read that this would not work. Now whenever I turn on my Advent PC, the Windows

Ring a bell? XP Pro, all patches and updates EXCEPT I am not sure about last nights nor what the operator (wifey) was working on before the most recent restart. I know how to save data, etc. and wipe the drive, and would rather not. Googling indicates a registry error (with a really involved fix, Q307545), or the sasser worm, which seems unlikely. Wondering about a fix other than Q307545. Mac and Linux users, I love ya, but this one has to run Windows. __________________ *REMOVE THIS PART BEFORE POSTING* Last edited by paul0660; 02-11-2011 at 9:40 AM.. paul0660 View Public Profile Find all posts by paul0660 #2 02-10-2011, 5:52 PM JDay I need a LIFE!!
