Search this forum for 'tnsnames' and 'ifile' or 'tns_admin'. I recommend the use of 'tns_admin'. The problem remains the same and maybe you should know that server-side the SIDs have changed from 3 character to 2 character naming and my troubles started from there...I have updated all tnsnames files accordingly with the right name-value pairs for SERVICE_NAME part. I am still checking your suggestions on the forum posts but have not yet found a suitable workaround. My application was working perfectly when I left on a vacation, I come back and there is a connection problem and this is the error message I get! Nobody has touched my server (or so they claim...) in the mean time. What could be the possible reason for this error and what should I check. I've already checked the Listener process, the tnsnames.ora file, the service and connections through SQL*Plus & Toad. All of the above seems fine. I've also checked the permissions for the Oracle_home and all subdirectories. The Oracle sid has no special characters. I can't think of any valid reason. Somebody please help! Also in my TNSNAMES.ORA the PROTOCOL is TCP and what I see in the log file is PROTOCOL=BEQ. Can somebody please throw some light on this!!! Can a 6i Forms program access 11gR1? 704224 Jun 8, 2011 2:23 PM I downloaded and installed Oracle database v 11gR1 and Oracle Enterprise Manager. Both fatal ni are working fine both on the database server and a test client workstation. I have not been able to get my Forms 6i executables to access the 11g database nor can I get sql*plus to connect to the 11g database from a client. On the client, I edited tnsnames.ora using the same format as my 9i databases. As a newbie, I have a couple of questions relgarding 11g: 1. Do I fatal ni connect need to load additional software on the client? 2. Can a Forms 6i executable access the 11g database? 3. Is there missing step I need to do outside of editing the tnsnames.ora file? Thanks in advance for any assistance you can render. Ron 256Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final. Forms comes with its own client. If so, you may be using the wrong tnsname.ora file. Do I need to load additional software on the client? No Can a Forms 6i executable access the 11g database? I don't see why not, its still Net80. Is there missing step I need to do outside of editin
