Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement raybro Thread Starter Joined: Apr 26, 2003 Messages: 5,834 Received notification of an update the flash player, clicked "Download" and went through the usual steps of running the executable. Got "Failed to Initialize". FF (v14) is my default browser, so tried with IE8. No joy. Disable AV program (MS Security Essentials). Still no joy. Tried multiple times with same result. Anyone else have this? Any recommendations/opinions? raybro, Aug 28, 2012 #1 Sponsor mtzlplex Account Closed Joined: Aug 5, 2002 Messages: 1,650 I just did a flashplayer update this morning, running xp pro, with Comodo Dragon as browser. Didn`t even disable my AV software. Had no problems. mtzlplex, Aug 28, 2012 #2 mtzlplex Account Closed Joined: Aug 5, 2002 Messages: 1,650 You may also want to have a look at this, there is info, and download link about halfway down the page(install flash player) which may help you. Found here: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html I just went to this link, and updated my wifes xp home machine using IE 8, no problems. mtzlplex, Aug 28, 2012 #3 raybro Thread Starter Joined: Apr 26, 2003 Messages: 5,834 Using the link provided by IMP49, found my current version of flash player is 11.3.300.271, I ended up on the same download page for version 11.4.402.265 as I downloaded before with the same result "Failed to Initialize" with the progress bar at 50%. Perhaps I'll try uninstalling the old version then installing the new version. I've a recent Acronis full backup image of my C:/ drive, so if it doesn't work out I can always recover to where I am now. I'm not sure its worth the effort as the player is working just fine. Any thoughts on that? raybro, Aug 28, 2012 #4 mtzlplex Account Closed Joined: Aug 5, 2002 Messages: 1,650 While you were at the link I provided, did you happen to read the troubleshooting guide? I've seen this cause the "Failed to Initialize" error before. If no luck, try downloading Flash from Filehippo instead.
