assist I would be grateful. I have had my Windows XP running on Raid 1 for some tome quuite happily. I got an error message the other day on bootup "disk member of http://www.dell.com/Support/Article/us/en/04/SLN129828 array has failed or is not responding" . When i go into the raid manager idt also confirms a disk status is "critical". If I unplug each hardrive and re-start the system runs normally each time. It also runs normally with both H/Drives plugged in. I would have thought unplugging and running each HDrive would show which one was at fault? I ran CHKDSK on each individual http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/264787-32-raid-error-message Ddrive with no errors. Could it be the Raid controller? I am only using the onboard ATI Raid controller whick XP says is running OK. Any ideas? regards mal More about : raid error message Paperdoc a c 466 G Storage 20 December 2010 12:03:18 When one of the two units in a RAID1 array fails, the normal operation is that the RAID controller reverts to using ONLY the remaining good unit so that you can keep working with no interruption. However, you have lost the automatic mirroring function so the controller also puts out a warning message to let you know that you need to fix the problem. The fact that your system seems to continue working OK is what it's supposed to do to help you. Within the RAID manager it tells you more than just you have a failure - it also tells exactly WHICH of the two units has failed. This may be by specifying a mobo SATA port number, or by specifying the serial number of the HDD that has failed. If you still cannot figure it out from that, try unplugging only ONE of the two drives in your RAID array. If you leav
(HDD) Computer ProgrammingHow do I fix an "Error in RAID Configuration" on a Western Digital My Passport Studio FireWire 800 portable drive? This drive is my dedicated iPhoto/Photos drive. It's attached to my venerable 24" https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-fix-an-Error-in-RAID-Configuration-on-a-Western-Digital-My-Passport-Studio-FireWire-800-portable-drive iMac, which is more-or-less a media server these days. I haven't had any issues with this drive previously. The error dialog instructed me to run WD Drive Utilities, which I've done and it passed all http://ps-2.kev009.com/eprmhtml/epr3b/h9297.htm tests. Here's the error dialog: (I have Backblaze running, so I have a complete offsite backup of the contents of this drive. But this is worrying me.)I ran Disk Utility's verify function and there were foreign configuration no errors. RAID information is stored on the drive itself. The best and most straightforward solution is probably to disassemble the case, take out the 'raw' hard drive, and plug it directly into a system which has easily accessible SATA ports. That will rule out the FireWire controller as misbehaving.I recommend you install 'smartmontools' which will give you detailed drive information. I assume WD Drive Utilities will also run S.M.A.R.T tests and report the information back to you. This looks like a mini-tutorial.How do I get detailed SMART disk information on OS X (Mavericks or later)Personally I find Linux is the best system for this kind of work (drive repair/recovery).External hard drives (mostly because of the USB/FireWire adapters) are much more unreliable than internal drives, in my experience. I would never count on them as "safe" storage for important files, so it is good that you have a backup.9.3k Views · View UpvotesRelated QuestionsMore Answers BelowHow can we check the warranty of a new purchase of Western Digital external hard drives from Flipkart or Amazon or eBay?Which is the best external hard drive, Seagate or WD?Who makes external hard drives that connect through FireWire 800?Do bus powered por
