This may fix your issue, if you haven't tried it already (reference: http://www.techsupportforum.com/microsoft-support/windows-xp-support/310506-generic-host-process-error-winxp-sp3.html ): These 3 files (wscsvc.dll, wzcdlg.dll and wzcsvc.dll) were replaced when you upgraded to SP3. You must put back the SP2-versions of the files. The build of the SP2-files are the same for all of the 3 files: 5.1.2600.2180 The date (on my computer ) is August 4, 2004. Do like this: 1) Create a new folder that is easy to access (C:\Temp). 2) Search your hard drive for these 3 old files, and copy them to C:\Temp. 3) If you didn't find all the 3 files on your PC, copy them from an other PC with SP2, or you can download them from http://www.dlldump.com/ . When you download, the date will change on the downloaded files, but that's OK.

They're long, but full of surprises. For instance, they strongly recommend stopping all non-Microsoft services before running the SP installer. I've had problems similar to this one that were resolved by paying attention to the SP readme. share|improve this answer answered Jul 16 '10 at 15:08 boot13 4,67521637 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote Uninstall SP3, reboot and configure XP for a Clean Boot state, install SP3 in the clean boot state, reboot and undo the clean boot settings, reboot once again. Worse thing is this error disconnects your internet until you restart the computer. Other annoying thing is this error crashes your opened applications. Good thing is it's easy to solve the problem. You don't have to use any third party software. I have seen some people pay couple of dollars to buy some small software to fix this issue. You can see this error if you installed windows couple of days ago. But you can't see this error if you have genuine windows and if you went through windows security updates. We have two solutions. 1. Go to this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894391 This is called hotfix package. Chose your operating system. Download the hotfix package. Install it and restart the computer. Or 2. Go to these two links. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17457 http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7126 Download two files and install them. Restart the computer. You won't see that error 🙂 Related Posts :How to fix “firefox.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.
