to show (I'd say a week or so), but what I do remember is that my Avira had reported a trojan file detected and I had chosen to quarantine and later deleted it. I https://forum.kaspersky.com/lofiversion/index.php/t206452.html figured that would have been the end of it but not so much as a few hours later I received a "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services has encountered an error" (I believe it mentioned svchost.exe and ntdll.dll) and maybe a few minutes later my theme template (task bar and such) changed to something that made it look like as though I were in safe mode. The next symptom after that generic host was I found that programs seemed to never start. I could say, double-click firefox, and the window would never appear even though it's process would show up in the task manager. It then got to the point where nothing would run and even shutting down seemed to be a frozen task. After figuring that surely there was a virus about, I booted to safe mode and launched Rkill and ran Malwarebytes to generic host process see if I couldn't just nail out whatever it was. After it found whatever infected files there were, I think maybe 8 of them in total (I do not remember the names whatsoever) I figured I was at least making a step in the right direction, if not already back up to "cured" status. Unfortunately, the problem persisted and so I decided to go out looking for solutions to this problem on google. That's when I realized I was being redirected to "Stopzilla" and other ad pages like that when trying to find information about my issue. Eventually, I found out that a symptom associated with this kind of thing was that Microsoft Updates would not be possible and sure enough I can't connect to the update site even though DownOrNot reports it as Up. (More specifically, I use Firefox so it states that the connection to the server was reset, but Internet Explorer simply states the page is unavailable.) Until now I've tried all of the following (some of these may not have been advisable but I tried anyways without doing anything too "cowboy'ish") (Not necessarily in this order and of course not all at the same time, which I should mention this entire ordeal has been ongoing for about 5 days now.
