They're long, but full of surprises. For instance, they strongly recommend stopping all non-Microsoft services before running the SP installer. I've had problems similar to this one that were resolved by paying attention to the SP readme. share|improve this answer answered Jul 16 '10 at 15:08 boot13 4,67521637 add a comment| up vote 1 down vote Uninstall SP3, reboot and configure XP for a Clean Boot state, install SP3 in the clean boot state, reboot and undo the clean boot settings, reboot once again. But after a 2nd reboot it doesn't show up again. I checked for viruses/spyware with several offline/online scanners and no malicious stuff detected. And this error seemed to occur when I did a windows update this november. The error involves svchost.exe, a file that is known for major bugs in SP2, and the same dumb generic host win32 services error which occurred with SP2, which was apparently fixed by SP3. SP3 was fine, and now the error is back. I checked microsoft's dumb site and they had no patches or solutions for it yet on SP3. My search always ends up on the SP2 fix which obviously does not apply. Checked the microsoft forums and people seem experience the same problem too. So does anyone else experience this crap on XP SP3 or are you using vista? ______________________________ (╯□)╯︵ ┻━┻ Last edited by frozenfart; 11-20-2008 at 03:29 PM.
