It seems both /all machines you want to share with must have an internet connection (I assume for authentication). I had the airport turned off on my PB as I'd been trying to avoid internet distractions. Turned Airport back on and the Home Sharing worked fine again. in response to keriah i had this issue, the thing that seemed to sort it was not using my icloud id but my alt (backup) email id instead and everything worked.
