Gives ibm thinkpad 600 error 00173 options to test or reboot. If you press test, there are the following errors on the

Don't panic and think it has to be the systemboard. ibm thinkpad 600 error codes It's probably the cmos battery needing replaced. This is a backup battery which keeps the system clock in time. Yes, an out of time clock on your desktop can mean you have a virus, so it's worth doing a through scan, ibm thinkpad 600 error 192 but in most cases it's a dying cmos battery. They should be 3 volts, so if you test your existing battery with a volt meter and it's low, better get a new one. New batteries are very cheap and in fact if you have the ability any lithium battery CR2025 should work in a 600e - a guide to how to fit these are on the web, but there's a good discussion of www.stonetable.org. If you can on boot up press F1

which should take you to the bios screen to check/adjust the internal date/clock, but it probably won't work with the 192 error, but once you've fitted a new battery do this and make sure the time/date is correct. Nevertheless, as my battery was not totally dead, I could force the IBM to boot into windows from the IBM Test screen by pressing 'reboot' and then pressing F1. Don't know why, but the laptop would then go into scan disk mode, perform a scan then boot up. I have to adjust the clock time, but once booted, the system works fine, with no errors. Odd, but okay while I'm waiting for a new battery to arrive. bahjan, Oct 15, 2008 #1 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) Show Ignored Content Loading... According to manual I should check the CMOS backup battery and I found out that CMOS backup battery was bad, when I measured the voltage it showed 0 V. SoI changed the CMOS backup battery, now the battery shows 3 V.Now when I switch on the Thinkpad with the new CMOS battery, I get error codes 163 and 173.The window with error codes 163 and 173 pops up, I press OK, window with time and date settings pops up. I set the time and date, I have to change the time and date from default values (2000-01-01; 00:0

Guest the ibm thinkpad 600e that i am working with, on boot i get the three errors 00161, 00192, 00163. i replaced the cmos battery and it made no difference. i have tried getting into the bios by http://ask.metafilter.com/57582/Error-Message-00192 holding F1 before and throughout powerup to no avail. when it finally loads up to something, it is the classic ERROR screen with the three errors listed and the arrow pointing to the manual. i can click on ibm thinkpad ok or cancel and they both do the same thing, basically the ok and cancel button disappear and then i can do nothing but restart the computer with the power switch which then just starts the process over. any help would be greatly appreciated , Dec 13, 2004 #1 Advertisements Bruce Markowitz Guest First of all it is likely a 600, NOT an e, the e does not generally give the 192 (fan) error Are you sure, ibm thinkpad 600 CERTAIN, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE you put in a new, good CMOS battery. Try another, this is the classic CMOS battery errors. Whenever I start it up, I get error message 00192. I'd like to avoid going to a technician if possible. What do I do now? Obviously, I've already tried google-ing this, but the results I got were either inconsistent or too technical for me to understand. This computer: - runs Windows XP - is around 8 years old (approximately) - hard drive is brand-spanking-new - runs pentium 2, 266 MHz the different results i got were that it could be the fan, the battery, or another complicated one (see below). on a different site i checked, a user who had gotten the same error message mentioned that he took out his battery and the error message stayed, so the problem probably wasn't the battery. the third option i got for what was wrong was as follows: snacc 00192: ERROR (0xC0): ACC card id number is out of expected range. Minimum possible id number: < #>. Maximum possible id number: < #>. >> Explanation: The SNA/ACC is hard coded to expect the card number range to be between zero to 63, inclusively. Action: Execute the xsnapadmin utility to make sure the configured card number is not out of the required range. Fix the card id and restart the SNA/ACC link.
