a formula evaluates to an error; otherwise, returns the result of the formula. Use the IFERROR function to trap and handle errors in a formula. Syntax IFERROR(value, value_if_error) The IFERROR function syntax has the following arguments: Value Required. The argument that is checked for an error. Value_if_error Required. Remarks If Value if error excel or Value_if_error is an empty cell, IFERROR treats it as an empty string value (""). If Value is an array formula, IFERROR returns an array of results for each cell in the range specified in value. See the second example below. Examples Copy the example data in the following table, and paste it in cell A1 of a new Excel worksheet. For formulas to show results, select them, press F2, and then press Enter. If you need to, you can adjust the column widths to see all the data. Even better, it helps people write programs resistant to errors, so programmers could be more sure that errors will not occur than in other languages. Did I write anything wrong? –danilo2 Apr 9 '13 at 10:53 10 robust The harder it is to create an error of any type or form that the computer cannot handle safely the more robust the software is. I guess that's the word you are looking for? –Esailija Apr 9 '13 at 11:07 1 You used the word "easier" twice, it's not because something is easier to use that it's less error prone. If you really mean "easier", than just document it as "easier". Besides I would leave the documentation to someone who actually is good at English, and also understands programming, or no one will use your language. –Mario De Schaepmeester Apr 9 '13 at 11:07 11 >easier threading (no deadlocks) There is no way to design paralelism with no deadlocks. If I was user, I would demand mathematical proof of your claims. –Euphoric Apr 9 '13 at 11:07

Can someone help me understand how this formula works and how to apply it to data in rows? I want to display the non error value in a new column, not the number of the row or column. Thanks! Try this formula =LOOKUP(2,1/(A1:A100<>""),A1:A100) extend range as required. In Excel 2007 and later you can use the whole column Original question here: Excel - find last value in a column which is not an error or blank arrays excel lookup share|improve this question asked Aug 1 '13 at 21:37 user2643809 62 Usually VLOOKUP or HLOOKUP is better, but in this particular case they're taking advantage of a difference in the older LOOKUP's reaction to not finding the search value. LOOKUP will return the last non-matching value, while HLOOKUP will return #N/A. –Denise Skidmore Aug 1 '13 at 21:51 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote =LOOKUP(2, 1/(A1:G1<>""),A1:G1) Just change the range in both places. share|improve this answer answered Aug 1 '13 at 21:51 Denise Skidmore 1,4321029 Hah, I can't believe I didn't just try that.
