First, I made sure that there were no other versions of Outlook running on my machine (apparently this can confuse GCSM). Second, I removed GCSM entirely, as the "repair" function evidently didn't help. Third, I re-installed GSCM from scratch and thus far my contacts and calendar seem to be syncing OK.
