Was internal hdd hard error dell inspiron 6000 working fine and today on booting, it came up with the message 'Internal HDD HARD error' Strike F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility.... Going into bios does not show me any devices present nor Hard disk or Dvd Rom. Even after setting DVDDrive as the first boot device, it does NOT do that but goes to the same message 'Internal HDD HARD error' and sits there. Any advice? if the Harddisk is toast then why wouldn't it boot from DVDROM as I now set it to do that? Why are all devices are not shown as Present in bios? Could this be the motherboard is toast and maybe not the harddisk? Thank you all in advance. xpsolutions, May 12, 2010 #1 Sponsor Gr3iz Mark Joined: Mar 9, 2009 Messages: 77,500 If you remove the HDD from the system, does the DVD drive show up in BIOS? Can you boot from it? Gr3iz, May 12, 2010 #2 xpsolutions Thread Starter Joined: Dec 14, 2009 Messages: 44 Even without a harddrive it did not make any difference. No drive in bios is present. xpsolutions, May 12, 2010 #3 Megabite Joined: Apr 5, 2008 Messages: 11,761 It doesn't sound good.......did you notice anything else odd before this happened? According to my friend who uses this laptop, nothing odd as it was working fine day earlier. xpsolutions, May 12, 2010 #5 Megabite Joined: Apr 5, 2008 Messages: 11,761 You can take out the HDD and put it in an 2.5 Enclosure and hook it to another PC through USB and see if the drive is OK. Sounds like the data info for the drives is faulty.....this PC is about 5 years old is it? I bought a new hard drive, a seagate momentus 20 gig but the laptop won't find the drive. I keep getting the error no bootable devices. I have looked for settings in the BIOS for SATA drives and can't find anything about hard drives at all. If someone could help internal hdd hard I would be very greatful. Thanks Neal Mar 7, 2007 #1 Tmagic650 TS Ambassador Posts: 17,233 +234 Did you have the drive properly installed in it's metal frame before installing it in the laptop compartment? There has to be something in the bios telling the system that it has a hard drive. You might have to boot up using a CD with XP or floppy boot disk. Any new drive needs to be formatted and an OS has to be installed on it Mar 7, 2007 #2 nealdarty TS Rookie Topic Starter I have tried to boot up using windows xp and get the message windows did not detect any hard drives and then the computer trys to restart. I have tried the drive with and without the drive caddy and I even took the bottom off the laptop and made sure the drive was seated all the way in. As for the bios I have looked in every option and only found one option that related to hdd and that was hdd aucoustic mode. Moderator Edit: Read: Dell Bios Password removal.
