The first thing to try is to change RewriteBase statement in you .htaccess file.#RewriteBase /drupal change to RewriteBase / Here is a thread where this problem was hashed out and resolved.http://drupal.org/node/187501 Hope it helps. Put this in your .htaccess file: "AddType x-mapp-php5 .php" and ur done! Thanks for the help :) Log in or register to post comments This was the solution for me dan.crouthamel commented April 27, 2008 at 5:39pm This was the solution for me as well. If you are using 1and1 (Linux package), it will use PHP 4 by default. Adding the line above to your .htaccess file will tell Apache to use PHP 5. 1and1 Error Log
1and1 (at Oct-2011) with Drupal, in order you dont waste a lot of time searching for different solutions. Finally I
1and1 Php Error Log
found the solution in comments, here: http://drupal.org/node/187501 Exactly, the solution at present day for me was only this: "posted be pcs305" Uncomment the RewriteBase statement in your .htaccess.#RewriteBase /drupal should beRewriteBase / If https://www.drupal.org/node/232773 you are in a subdir then RewriteBase /subdirectoryNameHere Forget the other solutions, like put "AddType x-mapp-php5 .php and AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php". This solutions were for times in the PHP4 was the standart PHP for 1and1. Now 1and1 works with PHP5, so you dont need to specify to Apache to use it. I hope this helps someone. But... When they say directory do you mean the ftp directory the files are installed in on the server? There are about 6 drupal created directors "Includes, misc, modules, profiles, scripts, sites, themes. These are all on the serve in a directory called LOA. Which RewriteBase / are you referring to: The one about VirtualDocumentRoot or the one above it? Thanks for any advice. I have three running 4.3.2 and since yesterday, they're all returning Error 500: Internal Server Error. And since 1and1 doesn't make the error logs available its a real pain internal server to debug. Anyone else seeing this? Or better still worked around it? In case it helps, according to someone on this thread:http://s88567960.onlinehome.us/forums/index.php?showtopic=650&st=0& apparently they recently upgraded to PHP 3.3.6. Also other installs are being broken like xoops. thx, michael Log in or register to post comments Comments more info - phpinfo, htaccess mikemee commented internal server error May 25, 2004 at 3:31pm Fwiw, the phpinfo results can be found here: http://s89376282.onlinehome.us/phpinfo.php in case someone can take a look and say "well of course it won't work because ....". Also, removing the htaccess file "fixes" things, in that it removes the error. Contents of the htaccess file are: # # Apache/PHP/site settings: # # Protect files and directories from prying eyes:

Today I set up my domain name so I can access the webpage from windvis.com. It only showed the first page, but when I click on any on the links I get Error 500 - Internal server error. I reinstalled drupal again and I have the same problem:http://s125410096.onlinehome.us/drupal/ this works fine but if I type http://www.windvis.com and click on any of the links I get the 500 Error. So I think this has something to do with my domain. I spent the last 2 hours searchin for a solution and I haven't found one. My host is 1and1.com, I do not have access to the apache config file but I can modify the .htaccess file. Any help would be appreciate. Also, I had this problem once when my host didn't like the default .htaccess. I had to strip it down to this: RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA] ... to get it to work. I am not sure why it would pitch a fit for the real domain and not the temp though. Have you asked the techs at you hosting service for help?
