Even though I configured the ASP "Debugging Properties" to "Send Errors to Browser an error occurred on the server when processing the url = True", the web app REFUSES to send errors to the browser and continues to send a 500 internal server error. My browser has "Show Friendly HTTP Error Messages" unchecked. Failed Request Tracing is installed (not sure if that's related) Happens both on web pages loaded locally on the server and remotely The App Pool is integrated (not sure if that matters) Any ideas? iis-7 asp-classic iis-7.5 share|improve this question edited Oct 18 '12 at 18:57 lsalamon 5,38043048 asked Sep 21 '09 at 10:17 Matias

I had enabled detailed errors and the 500 was still showing. My resolution was to enable parent paths in the ASP section in IIS for the site as the application was referencing the parent folder using "../": share|improve this answer answered Apr 8 '14 at 11:31 Jonty 53046 I always forget about this one. Many years pass between having to spin up a new classic ASP site and then BAM! Weird 500 errors. This is usually the problem. –Ian Patrick Hughes

So if "Send Errors To Browser" is not working set also this: Error Pages -> 500 -> Edit Feature Settings -> "Detailed Errors" Also note that if the content of the error page sent back is quite short and you're using IE, IE will happily ignore the useful content sent back by the server and show you its own generic error page instead. You can turn this off in IE's options, or use a different browser. share|im
you deploy it to your IIS server. Now you’re getting the dreaded 500 – Internal server error. What are you to do? As you may know, a HTTP 500 error is a generic error message returned by a web server when it knows something https://blogs.iis.net/rickbarber/working-past-500-internal-server-error has gone wrong but it is unable to be more specific about the error. That’s not necessarily helpful, though, when you are trying to figure out what is causing the error so you can fix it and get your web site to load. You should check out this blog post for more information on developing Classic ASP applications in IIS 7 or later. Tips for finding the real error Run the site directly on the server – depending on the configuration of your site/server, you may be able to see the real error if you load the site from a browser located on the same server. You may need internal server error to turn off ‘show friendly http errors.’ Temporarily add the following within the appropriate tags in your web.config file:
