So if "Send Errors To Browser" is not working set also this: Error Pages -> 500 -> Edit Feature Settings -> "Detailed Errors" Also note that if the content of the error page sent back is quite short and you're using IE, IE will happily ignore the useful content sent back by the server and show you its own generic error page instead. You can turn this off in IE's options, or use a different browser. share|improve this answer edited Jan 21 '14 at 15:03 answered May 4 '10 at 13:43 Vaclav Elias 2,49621122 8 Error Pages -> 500 -> Edit Feature Settings -> "D

However; there is nothing showing up in the Application Event Log where I would expect to see a (more) detailed description of the entry. In my experience, if the event log is empty than the request wasn't correctly routed to the worker process. In one of our recent deployments we saw the app work intermittently with about 50% of the requests randomly failing with the 500 error and nothing in the logs. I suspect something is going wrong with the AppDomain unload that occurs after deployment. Out of curiosity, are you running antivirus in your production environment? Does an IIS reset solve the issue (until the next deployment)? –ShadowChaser Feb 21 '13 at 16:17 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 23 down vote accepted Take a look at IIS7's Failed Request Tracing feature: Troubleshooting Failed Requests Using Tracing in IIS 7 Troubleshoot with Failed Request Tracing The other thing I would do is tweak your
