Entrekin, on Jan 12, 2013 2:41:00 AM Once in a while I encounter an error that doesn't provide any helpful information. to HTTP 500 Internal Server Error. First thing I tried to do is open SharePoint Central Administration, to see if I 500 internal server error sharepoint online get the same error message. Strangely, I was able to open Central Administration without any errors. I opened IIS Manager to make sure SharePoint - 80 Application Pool

was running, and I noticed that SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool application pool was stopped. I started SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool application pool, refreshed my SharePoint site but that didn't resolve the issue. I opened IIS manager and noticed that SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool was stopped again. In that case, best thing to do was to open IIS events log and check what's going on with SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool application pool. The IIS event log sharepoint 2013 an exception occurred when trying to issue security token showed the warning ID 5021: The identity of application pool SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool is invalid. The user name or password that is specified for the identity may be incorrect, or the user may not have batch logon rights. If the identity is not corrected, the application pool will be disabled when the application pool receives its first request. If batch logon rights are causing the problem, the identity in the IIS configuration store must be changed after rights have been granted before Windows Process Activation Service (WAS) can retry the logon. If the identity remains invalid after the first request for the application pool is processed, the application pool will be disabled. The data field contains the error number. In order to resolve this problem I navigated back to IIS manager -> SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool application pool-> Advanced Settings. Navigated to the Identity option. Updated the user's credentials and clicked on OK. I performed iisreset. And opened IIS manager again to check if it worked. SecurityTokenServiceApplicationPool was now started and didn't stop anymore. My SharePoint 2013 site was working again! The ULS logs won't show anything because the error happens before SharePoint or your web application has a chance to log an error. However, IIS has its https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28183814/Sharepoint-2013-500-INTERNAL-SERVER-ERROR.html own trace logging which can be easily turned on. Open IIS and click on the node for the site returning the error In the Actions pane on the internal server right, click Failed Request Tracing… Check Enable In the center pane, click the Failed Request Tracing Rules icon In the Actions pane on the right, click Add… In the wizard that opens, click next to select all content Then check Status codes(s) and enter 500, or any other error codes you want to trace Click Next to internal server error select all trace providers, and the Finished You will now see logs get created for failed request in the following folder:C:\inetpub\logs\FailedReqLogFiles Clicking on one of the log files will display the following information. Can you look for more details of the error into the windows event log and the Sharepoint uls log (c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\15\logs) and post the error details? Did you create a new web application and the root site collection? Which Sharepoint edition? Foundation or server? It seems you are using admin a/c to login to central administration site, correct me if I have not understood your situation.
