500 Internal Server Error Fix
This blog no longer applies to Azure. I was working on http error 500 wordpress a lab using the Windows Azure SDK when I got 500 server error Not a descriptive error 500 internal server error iis 8 message. The Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio (WATVS) creates a new application pool and web site on the fly when you run your Web application https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/311766 locally. The Azure tools do this to mimic how Azure runs applications in the cloud. The default setting on IIS for detailed errors is to only display for local addresses. (See http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/267/how-to-use-http-detailed-errors-in-iis/ ). To get a robust error message you need to use a local address. You can get a local address by changing the site https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/rickandy/2011/11/23/debugging-http-500-internal-server-error-with-windows-azure-sdk/ binding with IIS Manager. Select the web site in the connections pane, right click and select Edit Bindings.
In the Edit Site Bindings dialog, select the binding (the line in blue highlighting below), then select Edit. Change the IP address from All Unassigned to *. OK, then Close. In IIS Manager, in the Actions pane, select Browse *.8x(http) . Now when you run the Azure application, you’re rewarded with rich error information. In my case, the root Web.config of the application had a duplicate section in the the configSections element. The configSections is used for registering all IIS and Windows Activation System (WAS) sections. HTTP Error 500.19 - Internal Server Error The requested page cannot be accessed because the related configuration data for the page is invalid. Config Error : There is a duplicate ‘system.web.extensions/scripting/scriptResourceHandler' section defined I commented out the duplicate line and the application worked. Alternate approach – Editing ApplicationHost.config I was doing lots of labs, and each Azure application creates aor Website configured for a UNC path ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Rakki Muthukumar (rakkim)January 8, 20075 Share 0 0 Problem You get “HTTP Error 500 - Internal server error” while browsing any file under a https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/rakkimk/2007/01/08/http-error-500-internal-server-error-for-any-page-on-the-virtual-directory-or-website-configured-for-a-unc-path/ website or virtual directory whose home directory is a UNC. You will also see in IIS logs, the sc-status sc-substatus sc-win32-status as 500 16 1326. Cause Unknown user name or password configured for the UNC in IIS Metabase. Resolution This “HTTP Error 500 - Internal server error” error occurs only when you have the website or the virtual directory configured for an UNC and it uses specific internal server user name and password to connect to the UNC (not the logon user credentials). Give correct username and password for connecting the UNC share on the IIS Manager -> Website or Virtual Directory properties -> Home Directory or Virtual Directory -> Connect As -> Network Directory Security Credentials window. Alternatively you can also set UNCUserName and UNCPassword properties on IIS Metabase for the website or the virtual internal server error directory when you have this problem.
