server error up vote 0 down vote favorite I have a problem, I m using a shared Linux server, I want to upload file of size around 10-100MB. I don't have access to php.ini file. ini_set('post_max_size', '64M'); ini_set('upload_max_filesize', '64M'); It didn't works on server. Therefore I tried another way using .htacess by creating a file on root directory and placing the following code php_value upload_max_filesize 40M post_max_size in php php_value post_max_size 42M But it gives my 500 Internal Server Error. Is there something wrong I am doing? Thanks php .htaccess share|improve this question edited May 23 '13 at 7:28 Ahmad Alfy 7,49743565 asked May 23 '13 at 7:02 Rohit Nigam 260119 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted If you get 500 Server Error, it means that your sharing host is not letting you to set these global configuration. Contact your hosting company and ask them to set AllowOverride Options for your host. share|improve this answer edited May 23 '13 at 7:29 Ahmad Alfy 7,49743565 answered May 23 '13 at 7:25 Faron 986716 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote Probably your shared hosting is running PHP as CGI/FastCGI and not as an apache module. You can put php configuration inside an .htaccess file only if apache is running PHP as a module. Also, for these settings to have effect, it will depend on the AllowOverride setting in the main apache config file, as Faron said in his answer. share|improve this answer answered May 23 '13 at 7:34 Carlos Campderrós 10.2k43752 add a comment| Your Answer draft

However, the php_value Apache directive is provided by the mod_php module. If you don't run PHP as Apache module (e.g., it runs as FastCGI or with some other SAPI) that directive won't be defined, thus the 500 error. There're many ways to change PHP settings. In practice, I've found that hosting services that run CGI often provide a custom php.ini file somewhere in your FTP account. Additionally, if you run PHP/5.3.0 or newer you can use .user.ini files. You internal server will need to find out these configurations by using the codes below. Save as anyfileYoulike.php Upload to your server and direct your browser to this file. Look for the value of Server API . If your server says CGI or FAST CGI, then you need to make those entries on php.ini file. Meaning, you can create a internal server error new file and name it as php.ini, and then upload it to your server. It could be either in the same level of the directory needing the increase in max_filesize or above it. Here is the content of your php.ini file upload_max_filesize = 50M post_max_size = 50M max_execution_time = 500 max_input_time = 500 If your server API says, Apache 2.0 Handler , apache module or anything about apache, then your .htaccess file should look like this php_value upload_max_filesize 50M php_value post_max_size 50M php_value max_execution_time 500 php_value max_input_time 500 Remember to check what is on your phpinfo() first.. normally your upload_max_filesize would show 8M and not 8Mb... WARNING! You CANNOT use BOTH.. ONLY ONE mUST be selected.. CGI or Apache... Other modules may implement their own limits. To check if your upload_max_filesize setting took, create a file called info.php in your drupal dir with the following code in it: phpinfo(); and view it in a browser. If it is not working you can try adding php_value upload_max_filesize 32M to your htaccess... change 32M to whatever number you like. Made troubleshooting easier. (For the record, everyone, adding php_value upload_max_filesize 32M and php_value post_max_size 64M to the .htaccess in Drupal root was the trick. No php.ini change needed. This is a D6 install.) Log in or register to post comments My experience tells me the Imago commented March 23, 2008 at 4:57pm My experience tells me the opposite.
