Apache Internal Server Error Log
''500 Internal > Server Error''. Apache is running, reads files from htdocs folder. Check your Apache error_log That is the #1 place where you will find out why Apache is throwing a fit: that's where you would find notes about file permissions, missing interpreters, and syntax errors in the program. With the error message from the log, you should have no problem fixing it; without that error message, not a lot of hope. -- Greg Allensworth, Web GIS Developer BS A+ Network+ Security+ Linux+ Server+ GreenInfo Network - Information and Mapping in the Public Interest 564 Market Street, Suite 510 San Francisco CA 94104 PH: 415-979-0343 x302 FX: 415-979-0371 email: [hidden email] Web: www.GreenInfo.org www.MapsPortal.org Subscribe to MapLines, our e-newsletter, at www.GreenInfo.org _______________________________________________ Users mailing list [hidden email] http://lists.osgeo.org/mailman/listinfo/openlayers-users Tondo Reply | Threaded Open this post in threaded view ♦ ♦ | Report Content as Inappropriate ♦ ♦ Re: proxy and apache Hi Greg tha

The short answer: this is usually a permissions error on your CGI script, which is easy http://osgeo-org.1560.x6.nabble.com/proxy-and-apache-td3912603.html to fix. Go to your FTP client, or your website file manager, and highlight or right-click on the CGI script. Then choose Properties, or Permissions, or "Chmod", and set it to world-executable: that's 0755, or a+rx, or -rwxr-xr-x. Do NOT use 0777 (a+rwx or -rwxrwxrwx). And your cgi-bin directory itself should also be 0755, not 0777. The long answer: when running a Perl https://encodable.com/internal_server_error/ CGI script like FileChucker or UserBase, you may see the "Internal Server Error" message in your browser. The message will usually also say something like "please check the server's error-log for more information." You should do that -- the message printed to the error log will often tell you exactly what the problem is. The Apache error log, for example, is often located at /var/log/apache/error_log or /var/log/apache2/error_log (or sometimes "error.log"). If you don't have access to the error log, the next simplest thing to do is to make a backup copy of the script, then open the original and delete all of its contents, and add just these 3 lines to the file: #!/usr/bin/perl print "Content-type: text/plain\n\n"; print "testing...\n"; (Note: if the server is a Windows system, then replace the first line above with either #!perl or #!c:\path\to\perl.exe.) Now try to access the page in your browser again. If it works (you see "testing..." as its output) then you know that your server is at least configured properly for running Perl CGI scripts. If it doesn't work, then that may mean the problem is in the server configuration,

I am fairly new to apache, and do not fully understand the right way to edit the config/htaccess files to get what I want (I have searched for it, and on this site, and I dont get where/how you edit the files) my xampp installed apache path is: C:\xampp my document root is: C:\xampp\htdocs i want a script within C:\xampp\htdocs\01 to be able to execute in the readme it says i have to set the cgi file permissions to 755, i think i have to put the chmod keyword in a config file, but im not sure where. Also i think i have to say that i want that folder to be able to run cgi scripts, I have looked at http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/howto/public_html.html and http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/howto/htaccess.html which mention that I have to have: Options ExecCGI SetHandler cgi-script within a directory tag ? I think this is within the config file C:\xampp\apache\conf\httpd.conf but im not sure. I tried to change this config file, and the error message I get is: "Server error! The server encountered an internal error and was unable to complete your request. Error message: couldn't create child process: 720003: nph-proxy-1.cgi If you
