Close out all the Connect to Server Dialogue 2. Click on the New Query button from the toolbar 3. Enter the following details Server name: full servername (e.g. (name).database.windows.net) Login: Your Username (no @…) Password: Your invalid object name in sql server 2012 Password(optional) 4. Under the options in Connect to Database: type ‘master' or ‘your own database name'5. Hit connectOnce you hit Connect, it may give you additional warning, which depends on the server settings. Click OK and ignore all of them. It was indicated that pulling invalid object name in sql server 2008 r2 in data via Power Pivot or the Excel Data Tab worked fine. The errors were the following depending on the operation they were trying. DataSource.Error: Microsoft SQL: Invalid object name 'sys.databases'.Details: Message=Invalid object name 'sys.databases'. You need to use a 'use xxx' (where xxx is the database name where the ENG_PREP lives) command first to tell it what database you are using. And once you do that, you need to make sure that ENG_PREP is present in that database. If you're using .Net to connect, you need to make sure you specify the initial catalog so it knows what database to use, here's an example excerpt from a web.config:

Just a quick overview, I have recently had to reinstall windows on my machine becuase of an unrelated matter so before I did so i created an SQL script using the SQL Server Database Publishing Wizard so that the SQL Database could be recreated exaclty as it was. I have just reistalled SQL Server 2005 and the Managment Studio and have attempted to run the script. Once the script is run there are literally thousands of the following two errors: Invalid object name and Incorrect syntax near ... It is just these two varieties of error that appear. This is very odd as the script works perfectly on my remote SQL 2005 database server as the database was created exactly. So there clearly isent a problem with the script it must be something to do with the clean install on SQL Server 2005. I am unsure why this error is appearing? Has anyone one else had this problem or know a quick fix? Can anyone advise? Many thanks. I have a suspicion that you installed your SQL Server as case sensitive and thus having the problems, but we would be able to tell better if you post the exact error messages.
