Itunes Error 3001
I'm still having trouble playing movies (error code 5103) on my desktop computer, but I tried an experiment with downloading the incomplete downloads to my laptop, which is an old PowerMac G4. The movies downloaded and played, but since that laptop is so old, the streaming was really slow and the movies were unwatchable. In my case, I had a kernel panic that reset my clock on my desktop. This happened after I had rented one movie. I reset my clock to the correct time and am still getting the error code, even with new rentals. I suspect that Apple has written code that identifies your actual computer ID, or at least your IP address. This code must cause the iTunes Store to lock your account for that particular computer if the time changes. I've tried every conceivable solution to no avail. Reauthorizing the computer won't do the trick either. They really should do something about this problem, since users have various reasons why their clocks could change (relocating, battery going dead, and so on.)If anyone else has a solution, it would be greatly appreciated. I'd heard really good things about it and had wanted to rent it for some time. My wonderful wife bought me an iTunes gift card for Christmas so I wanted to start putting it to good use. The nearly 4GB download finally finished (HD rental) and I was ready to start the movie. After clicking play I received a dialog box with error code 5103. I ran Software Update to make sure I had the latest version of iTunes hoping that it itunes error would be a simple fix. That didn't do it. After some digging I got it going and now I'm sitting here enjoying this action-packed opening sequence. Here's what I found: Initially I thought it might be related to my date/time settings based on this Apple Discussions thread. I thought that was odd considering I was playing this on an iMac that is 2 days old. I looked around some more and found an Apple Support page giving some instructions for fixing the error. After error 5103 itunes deleting the /Users/Shared/SC Info/ directory and re-opening iTunes the rental played perfectly. I was quite nervous at first because reading the support page suggested that I would have to re-download the nearly 4GB rental. Thankfully I didn't have to re-download it or re-authorize iTunes. After deleting the directory it worked like a charm. Perhaps someone will come across this entry one day and have their problem solved :) Comments You should've seen it in the theatre. I did and bought the DVD last week. Sean on Jan 5th, 2010 at 8:08 pm Yeah there are a number of films I'd love to see in the theater. Unfortunately it cost an arm and a leg to go on a movie date these days. I just wait for rentals now. I probably go to the movies once a quarter now. Erik Reagan on Jan 5th, 2010 at 10:11 pm Me too… if I see a movie it's usually with my friends because then we dont' have to pay for a sitter. Sean on Jan 5th, 2010 at 10:22 pm Worked like a charm, I actually could not complete the download of 2 rentals without getting the 5103 error…...in my case I had 2 instances of /users/shared/sc info file, there was an sc info file ~ orig. Once I deleted these they completed downloading in about 2 seconds. Thanks! DS on Jan 17th, 2010 at 9:55 am That's great DS, glad this helped you out. I'm sure you were as
