I updated to iTunes 8 and can no longer use airtunes. The support documentation is inaccurate, in addition. Some have managed to fix it by unblocking UDP, but I don't have that option in 10.4.11. Sorry. I also had this error on one machine that I upgraded to iTunes 8, so I've held off upgrading the other machine until things get worked out.You don't want to allow all UDP traffic either, just go to (in 10.4.11, not Leopard) Sys Pref, Sharing, click on Firewall. Click New. Port name pull down: Other. TCP Port #s: Leave blank. UDP Port #s: 6001, 6002. Name it what you will (I named mine Airtunes). Click OK. Can't take credit for it as I saw it in another forum from a while back. But it works. On iTunes 8.01 I will block it again to see if I can get away without the rule. First, reset the airport by pressing the reset button until the amber flashes quickly. Then use Airport Utility to find the Base station. Then reset the base station but do not give it a name, leaving it in its

An unknown error occurred (-3256)." The problem has asserted itself http://www.mac-forums.com/showthread.php?t=125071 following the latest set of software updates. Reading all the threads I can find on the internet, I have determined to the best of my ability that the firewall UDP and network IPv6 settings are not the problem (these are the common fixes for most people.) Very aggravating to have this happen for no apparent reason. Does anyone else have the same issue and possibly a solution? Upon further investigation, I discovered that my 3 year old Airport Express unit was still running firmware v6.2. The current version is 6.3, and after downloading the firmware update from Apple, the problem is now fixed. I have left these posts here in case anyone else has this issue. Bear in mind the latest round of iTunes updates requires you to update the Airport Express firmware to the latest version as well. Before going on, make sure the following is true: You are connected itunes error to the internet You have the latest version of iTunes. Currently, that is iTunes 10.1 for both Mac and Windows If you're still having problems, here are some troubleshooting tips to fix and resolve various iTunes and iOS software update connection errors: Fix iTunes Network and iPhone Update Connection Errors There are numerous reasons you might encounter a network connection error with iTunes or iOS updates, try these fixes: Disable Firewall and Anti-Virus This is often the itunes error 3256 simplest solution and this is what you should try first. Temporarily disabling your antivirus software and firewalls often works to cease the network time outs. I can't give specific instructions for this because there are so many different types of antivirus and firewalls out there, but it's usually just a matter of finding the program in question and disabling it. Obviously, once the iOS update has been run successfully, you'll want to re-enable the firewall or antivirus. Uninstall and Re-install iTunes This seems to be more effective for Windows users, but sometimes just uninstalling iTunes and re-installing the latest version is enough to resolve network connection errors. Flush DNS Cache Sometimes flushing your DNS cache is enough to resolve the network time outs, here is how to do this for Mac OS X and Windows: Flushing DNS Cache in Mac OS X We've covered this before but here's a reminder: Launch the Terminal from /Applications/Utilities At the command prompt, type in "dscacheutil -flushcache" and hit return After the command has executed, you can exit Terminal and your DNS has been flushed This works in Mac OS X 10.5 and Mac OS X 10.6 or later. Flushing DNS Cache in Windows XP, Vista, and 7 Go to the Start menu and click on "Run" In the "Run" box, type in ‘command.com' When the DOS prompt appears, type in ‘ipconfig /

I also Share my iTunes library that I keep in my Vista machine in another room. I just bought a new Touch. I had to load iTunes 8 on that machine and then I was able to sync my Touch to the Vista machine. I then loaded an app from the Appstore called Remote and was able to get iTunes on the Mac to be controlled by my Touch. Very Cool!! So I then went to my MBP and loaded iTunes 8 (and in doing the upgrade I also downloaded all system updates) and connected Remote so that my Touch can also work on the iTunes that is on the MBP. That also works, although I was hoping that when the Touch was controlling iTunes on the MBP it would see the shared tunes from the Vista machine. But it doesn't. It just sees the tunes in the library of the MBP. But the real PROBLEM is that the Airport Express has stopped working. I can get the Airport Express to show the solid Green light but when I try to play anything I get: An error occurred while connecting to the remote speaker "Lroom tunes". An unknown error occurred (-3256). I have searched for
