LOL. After doing some online research via google it turns out what I'm experiencing is a so called Windows 1721 error. It would be nice if windows actually told me that that's what it is, and for that matter which can't uninstall apple software update program is the "required" program, but it doesn't. After some additional research, someone suggested that the program in question is Apple Software Update and the proposed solution was to "repair" that program in "Programs" under the Control Panel. I did that, and finally both Quicktime and iTunes were able to install.Other suggestions that didn't seem to make any difference were to turn off the firewall and virus protection software. Thanks Mike!Mike Helpful (1) Reply options Link to this post by b noir, b noir Sep 10, 2012 2:19 PM in response to mduquesnay Level 9 (72,129 points) Sep 10, 2012 2:19 PM in response to mduquesnay Glad you got things sorted out, Mike, and many thanks for reporting back with your resolution. You've got things pretty well covered for them, but just in case it's of help for other folks with the issue here's a link to a user tip on the issue:"There is a problem with this Windows Installer package ..." error messages when installing iTunes for Windows Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by narhenry, narhenry Jun 11, 2015 10:54 AM in response to mduquesnay Level 1 (0 points) Jun 11, 2015 10:54 AM in response to mduquesnay Thanks! "QuickTime is required by Vectorworks but is not installed" error message (Windows Only) On some versions of Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8, you may encounter this error message when attempting to launch Vectorworks for the first time: If you do in fact have QuickTime installed, then normally all you will need to do to resolve the issue is to set Vectorworks to Run as Administrator. To do this, simply right click on the Vectorworks icon, then choose "Properties" Under the "Compatibility" tab, check the box at the bottom for "Run this program as an Administrator".If that fails, simply follow this procedureto uninstall and reinstall Quicktime.
