reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.Server: Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "tims2_prod". On the machine which is generating the error, I can use SQL*Plus to connect to the remote database. I can also connect to the database using the "ODBC Data Source Administrator" oracle linked server equivalent when I create a system DSN. It would appear that the driver is installed and working correctly, but SQL Server can not access it. I have also uninstalled/installed serveral times. All of our servers are running W2003 Standard X64 with SQL Server 2005 Standard 64-bit Edition. Does anyone have any suggestions? This way the Provider you need will become available in the providers dropdown when you setup your linked server. I should note that the provider should be OraOleDB.Oracle not MSDAORA. After you install Oracle Client and add your linked server, please do one more step to check the properties of your OraOleDB.Oracle provider: it needs to have the option Allow inprocess enabled, like this: Also, you might want to make sure that your connection settings to your Oracle database are setup properly (under Security tab of your linked server property pages): Oleg \z_provider.png (56.9 kB) \z_linked_props.png (56.0 kB) more ▼ 0 total comments 822 characters / 111 words answered Mar 21, 2012 at 05:47 PM Oleg 17.1k ● 3 ● 7 ● 28 add new comment (comments are locked) 10|1200 characters needed characters left ▼ Everyone Moderators Original poster and moderators Other...
