Windows Media Player Cannot Play Dvd You Might Need To Adjust
I thought I would write up how I ended up fixing it! Hopefully, you read this before thinking it's some problem with Windows or with your DVD drive, etc as I have seen some people re-install Windows or get a new DVD drive because of this error! Actually, the problem all comes down to something called codecs. Codecs are small pieces of software that can decode the material on a DVD. Whenever a DVD
Windows Media Player Will Not Be Able To Play Dvd For The First Time.
is created, especially new one with copyright protection software installed on them, the content of the DVD is encoded using algorithms into a special format. This encoded data cannot be played on your computer in its normal format, so it has to be DECODED on your computer before it plays. You may have heard of DivX, which is a codec that allows people to compress full-length DVDs onto a CD without losing much of its original image quality. Some software DVD players will auto-download the required codecs for you and hence you won't have this problem, but for some reason Windows Media Players sucks at this and will pop up with the error message. If you have a Blu-ray drive and are trying to play a Blu-ray disc in Windows Media Player, the same thing applies. Windows Media Player, by default, cannot play Blu-ray discs like it can DVDs, so you have to install the correct codecs to get them to play in Windows Media Player. You can download all of the codecs for just about any type of video format by going to Free-Codecs.com and downloading the X Codec Pack or the K-Lite Codec Pack. You'll see them both listed, one on the first page and the other on the second page. Simply ignore all the items that are grayed out as

Your DVD decoder and Windows Media Player have copy protection software that decodes the information on the DVD just before displaying it. If this software doesn't start correctly, you might receive this error. Remove the DVD from the DVD drive and then reinsert it. This will force the copy protection software to reset. While the DVD is out of the drive, make sure that your DVD is clean. If your DVD is scratched or dirty, the DVD drive may not be able to read it correctly, and you might receive this error. If this doesn't work, try the following: • If you have been able to play DVDs on your computer before, and you receive this error message, you might be able to solve the problem by restarting Windows Media Player or your computer. • If you receive this error message the first time you try to play a DVD, you might not have a DVD decoder installed, or your decoder software might need to be updated. In addition to your DVD-ROM drive and Player software, you must have either a software or hardware decoder to play DVDs. Hardware decoders and their drivers are available from third-party manufacturers

Please help! I recently installed a trial version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4xq6G0VHLQ of Nero 8 on my Windows XP computer. Now, the bought dvd box sets I have will not play on my computer. I deleted Nero but it hasn't helped; Windows Media, DivX, all the media player players I have now tell me "Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings" They have always worked fine before, so I do not believe the problem is with these settings. During Nero Installation, I did tick a box that I think windows media player was asking if I would be playing dvds from Europe or America, and I ticked Europe, when i think these discs are made/compatable with the America option. But I don't know how to undo it! Now all teh dvds I have paid for will not play, for no reason. Any help I would massively appreciate! Thank you xxx Reports: · Posted 8 years ago Top parker6 Posts: 26 This post has been reported. Ok, I have messed around with the american/europe settings and still nothing. Windows Media Player will play discs I have burned myself with no problems. It's just the ones I have bought in box sets that won't play, even though they worked before without problems. Please help! It's so bizarre. Reports: · Posted 8 years ago Top parker6 Posts: 26 This post has been reported. ok, last post I promise - apparently I am suddenly lacking an 'MPEG-2 decoder'. Is there anywhere anyone knows of that I can download a compatible one for free, or do I have to pay?! Any help appreciated!
