Looks like the protocol level is not set to normal. Please check the ALUpdate log in %ProgramData%Sophos\AutoUpdate\Logs - this should tell from where it tries to update and why this fails. Christian Bijou 0 25 Nov 2015 9:44 PM Hi thomasrodriguez Would you please check if your primary updating location is Sophos or not? if this is a standalone, you should see sophos otherwise it should be your company shared folder for updating either UNC or an http address Make sure if it is Sophos you have the Sophos credential and if UNC or http , make sure you can browse to that location JorgeDiaz 0 1 Dec 2015 5:11 AM I have the exact same problem, only Process ID is 2088 and Thread ID 4704 In my case my home PC works without a problem while the laptop can't update the antivirus. Click here to go to the product suggestion community How to fix ERROR: Could not find a source for updated packages [0x00000071]" Hi All, I have been receiving this error, "ERROR: Could not find a source for updated packages [0x00000071]". I followed https://community.sophos.com/products/endpoint-security-control/f/sophos-endpoint-software/10702/error-could-not-find-a-source-for-updated-packages---stand-alone-install the guide provide by Sophos. The endpoint has communicated with the EC recently, the central updating policy is correct, the share permissions are correct. The guide states to check that iconn.cfg matches the EC policy, that files doesn't exist. The guide also states to clear the cache, no cache exists either. I think this could be related to the problem. Thank You. Cancel TylerSanchez 0 30 Aug 2016 12:58 AM The issues is also wide spread and https://community.sophos.com/products/endpoint-security-control/f/sophos-endpoint-software/79859/how-to-fix-error-could-not-find-a-source-for-updated-packages-0x00000071 effecting about 300 computers. QC 0 30 Aug 2016 10:37 AM Hello TylerSanchez, iconn.cfg [...] doesn't exist [...] no cache existsthis is unlikely, especially if it has worked before.C:\ProgramData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\ is there butC:\ProgramData\Sophos\AutoUpdate\Cache\ or ...\AutoUpdate\Config\ isn't? As it affects quite a number of endpoints the actual cause is probably not on them. Do you have both Primary and Secondary update locations and UNC or HTTP? Please try to access the share and/or web folder from the endpoint. If that works and update still fails check the ALUpdate

I had installed Sophos Endpoint Security Control on my W2003 Server and successfully protected a number of XP clients. Everything was green on my Dashboard. Now all of a sudden all of my clients have failed to update. They all have Error Code 00000071 ERROR message error could : could not find a source for updated packages. If I try and do an "Update Now" from the clients I get a message saying - "Could not contact server".I've checked my network (i.e. used ping to contact the server, and also checked the SophosUpdate and SophosUpdateManager shares are accessible) and that all looks OK.Any idea why this has suddenly started happening and what I need to do to get everything working again ? I've tried the obvious rebooting everything in sight but that made no difference. Thanks Peter:15137 Cancel beaufort 0 27 Jul 2011 8:16 PM Hi, i had this a while ago, and cannot recall how i solved it exactly, i believe the 71 error is a general connectivity error, i see that you have checked all connections, pinged etc, and can see shares. Here is somewhat of a checklist.1. Check the password on the account used for getting the updates is not expired or miskeyed in the settings.2. Disable the indexing service on the clients,(i think its called cisvc)3. Check that the firewall is off on the clients.4. Check the interval of your upda
