Msn Messenger Setup Has Failed With Error Code 1603
software to fix this error Steve, Aug 20, 2004 #1 Advertisements Jonathan Kay [MVP] Guest Greetings Steve, 1603 is a generic error which basically means that "something is wrong with the installation". As such, any so-called solutions you'll find will only address one of millions of possible issues that could happen during the installation. If you're using Windows 2000 or XP, click Start, then Run, type "eventvwr.msc" and click OK, click Application on the left-side, then look for Error's from the "MsiInstaller" source. The most recent one should be it, assuming you haven't had any other problems with a Windows Installer. Double-click the Error, and look in the Description field for a more accurate description of the problem. If you post this description (there may be multiple errors in the Event Viewer, so post all of them), it'll make it much easier to figure out what's going on in your particular case. ____________________________________________ Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2004 Jonathan Kay. I launch the install, get past the EULA and the page where I check the options I want, then it gives me an error saying "error reading from file (path to msnmsgs.msi). Verify that the file exists and that you can access it." http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r10161094-Messenger-Chat-MSN-Messenger-6-2-install-problems If I try "retry", it says the installer encountered an "unexpected error" giving me error code 2755. Then it says MSN Messenger did not install properly, and tell me to click finish. Once I do that, I get another error saying that MSN Messenger setup has failed with error code 1603.After that, I can't re-load my old MSN Messenger 6.1, it says "the action is only valid for products that are currently installed". If I try to uninstall messenger, it says the same message. If I try to repair, I get the same message that I got when I tried to install MSN.Any ideas? Now I can't remove my old MSN and can't install a new one. Thanks for any help,-Chris · actions · 2004-May-5 4:33 pm · auggyModjoin:2001-12-24Brockville, ON auggy Mod 2004-May-5 5:35 pm What OS?If XP or ME, have you considered using System Restore to restore your computer to a Restore Point when MSN Messenger was working? · actions · 2004-May-5 5:35 pm · chriskayPremium Memberjoin:2004-03-09Toronto, ON chriskay Premium Member 2004-May-6 2:09 am Sorry -- XP Pro SP1.And the system restore idea is great -- I never really thought about it.
