problem on Windows 8.1 ★★★★★★★★★★★★★★★ Aaron StebnerNovember 11, 201382 Share 0 0 Last week, I posted an updated version of the .NET Framework setup verification tool that supports verifying the .NET Framework 4.5.1. This past weekend, a customer reported a

problem where the tool wasn’t correctly detecting that the .NET Framework 4.5.1 is installed on Windows aaron stebner's weblog 8.1. The .NET Framework 4.5.1 is installed as a part of the OS on Windows 8.1, and it isn’t possible to uninstall it, uninstall .net framework windows 10 so there had to be something wrong with the detection logic in the tool. After some investigation, I discovered a problem with the detection logic that is documented in the .NET Framework 4.5.1 Deployment Guide for Developers. The deployment https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135 guide says that an application can test whether the .NET Framework 4.5 or later is installed by checking the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full folder in the registry for a DWORD value named Release. A value of 378758 means that the .NET Framework 4.5.1 is installed. This logic works correctly for the redistributable version of the .NET Framework 4.5.1. However, on Windows 8.1, the Release value is set to 378675 instead, so this logic doesn’t work on Windows 8.1. https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/astebner/2013/11/11/fixing-a-net-framework-4-5-1-detection-logic-problem-on-windows-8-1/ I have updated all of the following tools and samples to correctly detect the .NET Framework 4.5.1 in both the redistributable case and the Windows 8.1 OS install case: .NET Framework cleanup tool .NET Framework setup verification tool Sample code to detect .NET Framework install state and service pack level Comments (82) Cancel reply Name * Email * Website phillip says: November 16, 2013 at 9:09 am The tool didnt work for me removing 4.5.1 from windows 8.1 Reply Aaron Stebner says: November 16, 2013 at 12:59 pm Hi Phillip - On Windows 8.1, the .NET Framework 4.5.1 is installed as a part of Windows and you are not allowed to uninstall it. The cleanup tool does not allow you to attempt to remove versions of the .NET Framework that are installed as a part of Windows. Reply Phillip says: November 16, 2013 at 5:55 pm Oh okay. Thanks for the reply Reply Thomas says: November 26, 2013 at 5:05 am Hi Aaron. Is there any way to set my V4.5.1 back to V4.0 Full ? Reply Aaron Stebner says: November 26, 2013 at 10:02 am Hi Thomas - In order to revert from the .NET Framework 4.5 or 4.5.1 back to v4, you need to fully uninstall 4.5 or 4.5.1 and then re-install v4. One note too - you cannot revert to v4 on Windows 8 or Windows 8.1. Windows

with Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 but there are many 3rd party software programs which require .NET Framework 3.5 installed in Windows. So people use online or offline methods to install .NET Framework 3.5 in Windows 8 or later as given in following tutorials: How to Install .NET Framework 3.5 Offline in Windows 8 and Later Download .NET Framework 3.5 Offline Installer for Windows 8 and Later But there are a few people who have faced problems while installing .NET Framework 3.5. When they try to install it, they receive error messages such as the source files could not be found or downloaded, etc. These error messages contain different error codes such as 0x800F081F or 0x800F0906. To fix these problems, we posted a troubleshooting article which allows you to install .NET Framework 3.5 in Windows 8 and later without receiving any error messages: [Fix] 0x800F0906/81F Errors While Installing .NET Framework 3.5 in Windows 8 and Later The above mentioned guide helped a lot of people and fixed the error messages but still there were a few people who were not able to install .NET Framework 3.5 in Windows 8 and later. Then an AskVG reader Patrik posted a different solution which worked for those people. Patrik: I have three Surface Pro 3 with Windows Pro 8.1 that have the same issue. .NET Framework 3.5 will not install. I've tried both via DISM, Programs and Features and via full install setup. I have tried to uninstall every single Windows update on the machine and then install via DISM, but that didn't help either. I even tried to install all three KB-updates (KB2966826-8) to see if I can uninstall them to get rid of potential dll-files that could be interfere with the .Net 3.5 setup. So I then decided to wipe it clean via Windows own restore system guide. But it didn't even work after I have done a clean Windows install. Immediately after Windows installed I tried to enable the .NET 3.5 feature,
