On Error Statement Enables or disables error-handling.Syntax Copy On on error resume next in qtp Error Resume Next On Error GoTo 0 RemarksIf you don't use an On Error Resume Next statement anywhere in your code, any run-time error that occurs can cause an error message to be displayed and code execution stopped. However, the host running the code determines the exact behavior. The host can sometimes opt to handle such errors differently. In some cases, the script debugger may be invoked at the point of the error. In still other cases, there may be no apparent indication that any error occurred because the host does not need to notify the user. Again, this is purely a function of how the host handles any errors that occur.Within any particular procedure, an error is not necessarily fatal as long as error-handling is enabled somewhere along the call stack. If local error-handling is not enabled in a procedure and an error occurs, control is passed back through the call stack until a procedure with error-handling enabled is found and the error is handled at that point. If no procedure in the call stack is found to have error-handling enabled, an error message is displayed at that point and execution stops or the host handles the error as appropriate. On Error Resume Next causes execu

Considered very bad and ugly, and rightly so in my opinion. It's like having a big: try { // your code } catch { // nothing! muhaha } in every method of your code (or worse, around the whole program). On error goto 0: disables any error handler that is defined in the current procedure. It's like having a big try-catch around your code, which gets disabled as soon as its hit this line. For more information, see the MSDN. share|improve this answer edited May 13 '09 at 8:32 answered May 13 '09 at 8:20 Razzie 19.7k104862 2 +1 Yes. I just discovered this: If you use On Error Goto 0 then every other On Error statement in the procedure becomes disabled. That was totally unexpected. I thought that the documentation was saying that only the last executed error handler is disabled. I expected that if the code reaches another error handler that it would be enabled again but it isn't. –authentictech May 9 '14 at 14:54 add a comment| up vote 4 down vote Have a look here: http://

For example, On Error Resume Next 'Do Step 1 'Do Step 2 'Do Step 3 When an error occurs on step 1, I want it to log that error (or perform other custom functions with it) then resume at step 2. Is this possible? and how can I implement it? EDIT: Can I do something like this? On Error Resume myErrCatch 'Do step 1 'Do step on error resume 2 'Do step 3 myErrCatch: 'log error Resume Next vbscript error-handling share|improve this question edited Oct 1 '08 at 14:13 asked Oct 1 '08 at 14:04 apandit 2,50611831 1 Dylan's response is about as good as VB gets in the Error handling department. This is why I always used Javascript when I could get away with it. –wcm Oct 1 '08 at 14:23 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 103 down vote accepted VBScript has no notion of throwing or catching exceptions, but the runtime provides a global Err object that contains the reuslts of the last operation performed. You have to explicitly check whether the Err.Number property is non-zero after each operation. On Error Resume Next DoStep1 If Err.Number <> 0 Then WScript.Echo "Error in DoStep1: " & Err.Description Err.Clear End If DoStep2 If Err.Number <> 0 Then WScript.Echo "Error in DoStop2:" & Err.Description Err.Clear End If 'If you no longer want to continue following an error after that block's completed, 'call this. On Error Goto 0 The "On Error Goto [label]" syntax is supported by Visual Basic and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), but VBScript doesn't support this language feature so you have to use On Error Resume Next as described above. share|improve this answer edited Oct 1 '08 at 14:36 answered Oct 1 '08 at 14:11 Dylan
