of the vb.net world, I use the Try/Catch statement quite a bit for when it comes to errors, as the following. With Me .Text = "a" Try .Text += 1 Catch ex As Exception MsgBox("error: " https://www.daniweb.com/programming/software-development/threads/423676/try-catch-vs-on-error-resume-next & ex.Message, MsgBoxStyle.Critical) End Try MsgBox("a") .Text = "b" Try .Text += 1 Catch ex As Exception MsgBox("error: " & ex.Message, MsgBoxStyle.Critical) End Try MsgBox("b") End With For the first time today, I attempted to use http://www.vbforums.com/showthread.php?472877-RESOLVED-Try-Catch-Resume-Next the On Error Resume Next and it returned the results I needed; less lines of code and only results if an error occured. On Error Resume Next With Me .Text = "a" .Text += 1 on error MsgBox("a") .Text = "b" .Text += 1 MsgBox("b") End With My question is, even though quite clear to me: For such lines of code as above, is the On Error Resume Next appropriate and can I move on to the next part of my.app with no worries, ever?.thanx.in.adv,.Me. error vb.net â””(vb.net: codeorder.net)â”â””(DaniWeb: How to mark a thread as solved?)â”â””(.reality.: .Me ='s Life; .My ='s Univers.e/.al:.bytes.)â” codeorder 197 2,027 posts since Aug 2010 on error goto Community Member 3Contributors 6Replies 12Views 4 YearsDiscussion Span 4 Years Ago Last Post by codeorder 0 Oxiegen 88 4 Years Ago By using a Try...Catch statement you can catch the error and do something about it. It's a very useful debugging tool. However, you don't have to enclose every single piece of altering code in it's own statement. You can start the Try statement even before the line With Me and end it below the line End With, followed by the Catch statement with a messagebox displaying the error. With On Error Resume Next, you won't know if an error occured and on what line. So you have no way of knowing and thus can't do much about it. Also. Personally I feel that those types of error catching methods are depricated as they originate from the old-school VB type programming. The Try...Catch statement is the .NET way. That includes the use of MsgBox. Have you looked at MessageBox()? 0 Discussion Starter codeorder 197 4 Years Ago Thanks for the informative reply Oxiegen. :) I basically need to run a Sub that will set values to TextBoxes with Ctype(someCoolForm.Controls("someCoolTextBox"),TextBox).Text="daniweb.com" and wanted to use the minimum amount of typing/lines to accomplish this, even if it throws an error in case a TextBox doe

I have a case where I need to resume execution on the next line after an exception. Is there no way to do this using the structured error handling? I realize that I can go back to the "On Error .. Goto", but I can't believe there's not a way to do this with structured error handling... The main point of Try...Catch blocks is to catch an error then exit the function. You can use Finally to execute remaining code whether or not an error occurred. Like vb.net Code: Try' Some codeCatch aex As ArgumentException' Some exception codeFinally' Can be used to dispose of objects created in this method. Prefix has no suffix, but suffix has a prefix.
