Vbscript Quit Script
14,275 Views Last Modified: 2016-10-22 How can I quit the vbscript on error instead of resume next? I've tried a few variations and nothing works. I tried: On Error GoTo Quit Function Quit() WScript.Quit End Function On Error GoTo 5 5 WScript.Quit 0 Question by:MDauphinais1 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 6 Best Solution byitdrms Nope, sorry. Only 2 options with VBS -- handle each possible error or ignore all errors. GoTo 0 is the only GoTo option -- it doesn't really mean the same as a GoTo to redirect -- but totally understand what you're attempting. It just means the opposite of resume next, instead of continuing it throws an ugly error to the user. There are limitations/tradeoffs for not having a full blown compiler. The only good thing is that the On Error is not a one time statement. You can switch back in forth in your script. If there's a particular place in code you are concerned with you can turn Resume Next on just before and turn it off after, otherwise it gets pretty laborious. No nice global catc

I have written the script in such a way that I can receive a status back at various points to determine if the script is executing as expected. If at any point something is failing I exit the script using the wscript.quit method. I would like to be able to get some status back to the Landesk console to report the error. If I quit the script and specify an exit code ( e.g. wscript.quit(1) ) I will get an error message. Here are a few of the errors that correspond to different exit codes:wscript.quit(1) = Incorrect function.wscript.quit(2) = The system cannot find the file specified.wscript.quit(3) = The system cannot find the path specified.wscript.quit(4) = The system cannot open the file. What I would like is to be able to get a custom result message back in the Landesk console instead of the standard ones I mentioned above if the script errors out. Is there any way to accomplish this or is there another method that works better when running WSH packages? Thanks in advance. 13863Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final.
