Exp 00056 Oracle Error 12154 Encountered
Longer answer -- you'll want to make sure to use the Oracle8 (not 8i) EXP exp 00056 oracle error 1017 encountered tool to export from 8i and the Oracle8 IMP tool to import it. The EXP files from an earlier release of a exp 00056 oracle error 1034 encountered database may be imported using the current releases IMP tool (eg: I can take a v7.x exp and import it with v8.1 IMP). The EXP files from a later release cannot be imported using that IMP (eg: I cannot take a v8.x export and import it using a v7.x tool -- even v8.0 cannot import v8.1 exports). You use the EXP tool of the release you want to "downgrade" to to export the data. If you need to goto a version 7 database from version 8, there are views (catexp7.sql found in $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin) provided to allow the v7 export tool to run against the version 8 database. The problem with using an 8i export against 8.0 import is that there are new objects in the 8i export that 8.0 simply doesn't recognize. My DBA just did exp/imp of all user schemas from one database to the other: using his USERNAME ( which i guess had granted himself sysdba/sysoper role) and imported a few dozen schemas using the FROMUSER TOUSER option. EXP-00056: ORACLE error 942 encountered with db_link Question: I tried to export the table from client database 8.1.7 using DBLINK from our database 10.1.0.3 and got this error "EXP-00056: ORACLE error 942 encountered". It is claiming the table does not exist, but I don't see it asking for a table - yet. (weird) Why not try it as a single command.... like this: exp scott/tiger file=emp.dmp tables=(emp, dept) I think that you are breaking the second rule there, and you should be exporting using an 8.1.7 client. The Oracle documentation notes: Whenever you are moving data between different releases of the Oracle database, the following basic rules apply: * The Import utility and the database to which data is being imported (the target database) must be the same version. * The version of the Export utility must be equal to the earliest version of the source or target database. For example, to create an export file for an import into a later release database, use a version of the Export utility that is equal to the source database. Conversely, tovalid for table information My gut feeling says.. no.. (without actually validating the file)..
