If you are working on a windows system then edit this file with a windows editor, in order to have a clean content. A common problem is when copying http://www.error-code.org.uk/view.php?e=ORACLE-ORA-12169 a tnsnames.ora file from windows to linux, it probably have \r\n instead of \n causing this problem. Harry 2008-07-18 06:49:17 Could also be a DNS hosts issue. sometimes a.host.in.here may resolve to multiple IP addresses in which case it becomes too long for oracle to handle. Oct 19, 2015 8:30 PM by Chris Shatara using tns on a mac Thomas Cook Jun 20, 2014 6:57 AM I am trying https://community.tableau.com/thread/144725 to use tns on the new mac version of tableau and http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/169455/ can't get it working. I use tns with other applications, but when I have to use the server address an service name to get it to connect. I can work around it, but it gets to be a pain as it works in windows oracle error and when opening a file back and forth with windows users I have to edit the connection and then I send it to them and the connection doesn't work so they have to change it back. I am getting the following error when using "name.world" as the server, with the service and port empty:Oracle database oracle error 12169 error 12169: ORA-12169: TNS:Net service name given as connect identifier is too long I have the same question Show 0 Likes(0) 199Views Categories: Data Sources & Connections Tags: none (add) macContent tagged with mac, oracleContent tagged with oracle, tnsContent tagged with tns This content has been marked as final. Re: using tns on a mac Chris Shatara Oct 19, 2015 8:30 PM (in response to Chris Shatara) I found the answer here:SYSTALENT"The reason was simple, the tnsnames.ora file had Windows encoding (CR/LF) instead of Unix/Linux encoding (just LF). Just saving the tnsnames.ora file in *nix format solved the problem !" Message Navigator E-mail to friend ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified [message #500124] Thu, 17 March 2011 16:45 markop Messages: 10Registered: March 2011 Location: Lithuania Junior Member Hi, As i have little clue what i will write down - i will try to be as much specific as i can. What works: There is a oracle database on the local network. I'm connecting to it through my web server on my pc (apache/php). I have installed "oracle_instantclient10". It works fine - i can connect to oracle db, queries are executed fine. What doesnt work: I'm trieing to connect to the same oracle db from a Linux server, but i get the error: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified My linux server can connect to remote oracle db, because "nmap ORACLE_DB_MACHINE_IP -PN", gives me answer "1521/tcp open oracle". I have the same firewall allowance with my winXp pc. I use the same "TNSNAMES.ORA" and "SQLNET.ORA" files on both: linux server, winXp pc. The only difference between winXp and linux machines is that winXp uses oracle instant client version 10.2, and linux uses version 11.2. Can the version thing can be the case?
