I changed the character set of my database with: "update sys.props$ set VALUE$="..." where NAME="NLS_CHARACTERSET" The problem is that when I try to do a backup with "exp user/pass userid=... file=..." I obtain this error: .... . exporting pre-schema procedural objects and actions . exporting foreign function library names for user COIIC . exporting PUBLIC type synonyms EXP-00008: ORACLE error 6552 encountered ORA-06552: PL/SQL: Compilation unit analysis terminated ORA-06553: PLS-553: character set name is not recognized EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully Why? Why didn't you use the ALTER DATABASE characterset command? At least that works. Secondly: you don't specify in what you changed it (probably into something which is not in v$nls_valid_values), nor do you specify the value of your NLS_LANG environment variable nor your version nor you OS etc. One can only hope you have a valid backup. The error is based on a compilation of an object, not in the character set itself. It may be that there is a character defined within the object (package, procedure, etc....) that is not defined in the new character set.
