Ora-28007
I tried creating the oracle user manually and now I get this ora-28003 error. I tried ora-20004 switching that password verification off but still I get the error. "alter profile default limit password_verify_function null;" Another strange thing is that, now after setting this to null, I can create new users. But I cannot update existing users. How were you creating the new users? Were you trying to use the same passwords as in the old database? In oracle 8.1.7. we had set up to take the user name as the password. So I am trying to do the same here. You cannot make them oracle error change it the next time, but you can create them and have the password expire in N days (soon) so they are forced to change it. See http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/A81042_01/DOC/server.816/a76956/secure.htm#2185 For new 9i stuff: http://download-east.oracle.com/otndoc/oracle9i/901_doc/nav/docindex.htm#index-NEW You use '' for a ' in a string: exec p( 'he havn''t' ) BUT in your programs, you BETTER be using bind variables: begin p( :x ); end; and bind "he havn't" - no need to quote quote in a bind variable. Use the GRACE period to make it so they can login but get a warning that they must change their password: ...
... DBAs can also specify a grace period using the CREATE PROFILE statement. Users enter the grace period upon the first attempt to log in to a database account after their password has expired. During the grace period, a warning message appears each time users try to log in to their accounts, and continues to appear until the grace period expires. Users must change the password within the grace period. If the password is not changed within the grace period, the account expires and no further logins to that account are allowed until the password is changed.
