Oracle Error Correction Support Policy
Are AMP Support... » "Certified" vs. "Error Correction Support": What's the Difference? By Steven Chan - EBS-Oracle on Aug 28, 2015 We've recently gotten a string of questions about the support status of obsolete products listed in the Certifications system on My Oracle Support. This is really important: everyone working with Oracle products should know how to determine the support status of their products. The existence of a listing in the Certifications system doesn't necessarily mean that a product release is covered by Error Correction Support. To determine the support status of a particular combination: Check if the combination is listed in the Certifications system Check the support status of the product releases Check the support status of the product patch sets Interpret this information Let's walk through these steps in more detail. Understanding the three phases of support We produce new patches and certifications for Oracle products while they are covered by either Premier or Extended Support. Those two support phases are collectively known as the Error Correction Support period. After that period, products are covered by Sustaining Support. You can download existing patches and documentation for products in Sustaining Support. You cannot request new patches or certifications for these products. See the Oracle Lifetime Support Policy site for more details about Premier, Extended, and Sustaining Support levels. Step 1. Check if the combination is listed in the Certifications system The Certifications system on My Oracle Support lists all of the combinations that we've tested for the E-Business Suite. Certifications are generally retained for reference purposes after the Error Correction Support phase has ended for those products. The existence of an historical listing in the Certifications system doesn't necessarily mean that that is still covered by Error Correction Support. For example, the Certifications system includes historical listings for: EBS 11.5.3 (Error Correction Support ended July 2006) EBS 12.0.6 (Error Correction Support ended January 201
Migration... » Reminder: Error Correction Support Ended for Database 11.2.0.3 By Steven Chan - EBS-Oracle on Dec 15, 2015 E-Business Suite customers must ensure that their database remains on a level that is covered by Error Correction Support (ECS) -- i.e. while you can get new patches, Critical Patch Updates (CPU), and Patch Set Updates (PSU). We've covered this in detail here: On Database Patching and Support: A Primer for E-Business Suite Users The following Note lists Error Correction Support dates for all database patchsets for all database releases: Release Schedule of Current Database Releases (Note 742060.1) That Note shows that patching ended for the 11.2.0.3 https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/certified_vs_under_ecs Database patchset on August 27, 2015. All EBS customers should upgrade to a later patchset or database release. As of today, options include upgrading to the 11.2.0.4 patchset or Database 12c 12.1.0.2. technical support through My Oracle Support. The Support Policy has 3 support stages: Premier – 5 years from general availability (GA) date Extended – 3 years extra (Normal support fee + 10-20%) Sustaining – Perpetual (Normal support fee + http://theheat.dk/blog/?p=1753 10-20% + inflationary adjustment) Not all products have Extend support. Not all support features are available in all stages. Sometimes Oracle will extend the Premier and Extended periods. The WebLogic Server 11g for example went GA mid-2009. Currently the Premier Supports ends December 2018 and Extended December 2021. The latest Patch Set for WebLogic Server 11g is 10.3.6. So if you use 10.3.6 you are set for some years, support wise. But what if oracle error you use 10.3.5? If you look in the Critical Patch Update (CPU) from October 2013: "Patch Set Update and Critical Patch Update October 2013 Availability Document (Doc ID 1571391.1)" You will under "Final Patch History" see that July 2013 was the final CPU for WebLogic Server 10.3.5. So even though WebLogic Server 11g is supported for years, CPUs etc. is only available if you are running the latest Patch Set e.g. 10.3.6. This is oracle error correction governed by the Oracles Error Correction Support Policy (ECP). The ECP states that when a new Patch Set is released Oracle will only deliver error corrections to the previous Patch Set within a certain grace period. The grace period is for the customer to have time to plan and apply the Patch Set: "Grace Period: up to 1 year for first patch set (minimum 3 months), and up to 2 years for second and subsequent patch sets." These days it is imperative to apply security patches and this makes the ECP grace period very important. It is my experience that the ECP is often forgotten. Make sure that the customers are aware of the benefits of installing the latest Patch Sets and realizes the risks of not doing it. Here are some of the ECP grace periods for FMW: Version End of Grace Period FMW 11.1.1.6.0 APR2014 FMW 11.1.2.3.0 (ADF) MAY2014 Forms/Reports 11.1.2.0.0 DEC2013 WLS 10.3.5 AUG2013 WLS 12.1.1 JUL2015 Since WebLogic Server 10.3.6 is the terminal patch release for 11g, Error correction will be provided through Premier support and Extended Support.
