An ORA-7445 is a generic error, and can occur from anywhere in the Oracle code. The precise location of the error is identified by the core file and/or trace file it produces.Looking for the ora-04029 best way to diagnose? Whenever an ORA-7445 error is raised a core file is generated. There may be a trace file generated with the error as well. Prior to 11g, the core files are located in the CORE_DUMP_DEST directory. Starting with 11g, there is a new advanced fault diagnosability infrastructure to manage trace data. Diagnostic files are written into a root directory for all diagnostic data called the ADR home. The page you used to submit this question has in bold, italic, really big, right at the top: READ THIS, REALLY, it'll save us all time and you have all of the time you need to read it!(the fact you are on this page means you will get to ask a question, take your time).... This is not Oracle support. Repeat: THIS IS NOT Oracle support. Questions that are obviously support questions, for example: * I'm getting an ora-600, ora-3113, ora-7445 are *support* questions * I'm not able to install "X" * I'm trying to configure "Y" Questions posted here should be "how to" in nature, that is what I do best. During testing the application kept losing the connection to Oracle when running a certain query. Here is a simplified example which replicates the problem exactly: --create an example table CREATE TABLE ERROR_TABLE( PKID INT, STRING_COLUMN VARCHAR2(255 CHAR) ); --and run the offending query SELECT T.*, ROW_NUMBER() OVER( ORDER BY TO_NUMBER(REGEXP_SUBSTR(STRING_COLUMN,'^[0-9]*[.]*[0-9]*')) ASC, STRING_COLUMN ASC, PKID ASC ) FROM ( SELECT PKID, (SELECT MIN(STRING_COLUMN) FROM ERROR_TABLE T1 WHERE T1.PKID = T2.PKID) AS STRING_COLUMN FROM ERROR_TABLE T2 )T; When I run this query the connection to Oracle is dropped. There is an 'incident' recorded in the Oracle alert log, but it doesn't say why it happened. It seems to be the combination of the TO_NUMBER(... and the SELECT(MIN... part. If I replace either of those the problem goes away. However, I'm reluctant to do this as it's been tested and validated, and this technique appears in multiple places throughout the program. Has anyone else encountered anything like this? What is causing it? I'm running Oracle 12.1.0.1.0. The server is 64-bit and the client is 32-bit. UPDATE Here is the relevant excerpt from the alert log:
