Error reporting in Outlook? I am Running Windows 7 ver 6.1 SP1 and Outlook 2010 version 14.0.6112.5000 (32-bit). Our outlook keeps shutting down without any known cause. http://support.kaspersky.com/7211 I get the error messaging as OUtlook is not responding etc....then i can restart it. Our exchange server is hosted by GoDaddy, but we've purchsed the office liscenses directly from MS. To access Outlook error log: open Computer Management - Event Viewer - Windows Logs - Applications or/and Event Viewer - Applications and Service Logs - Microsoft Office Alert. As a recommended solution I would open Outlook in safe mode first. It will indicate if Outlook’s add-ins causing the issue. To start Outlook in safe move: Start – Run and type C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\Outlook.exe /safe If Outlook stopped restarting (in safe mode) then you know it is one of the add-ins. Open Outlook again in Safe Mode and disable issued add-ins. Sometimes, .pst file is corrupted or even hard drive. So, check / verify .pst file: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14\scanpst.exe As per hard drive; run a scandisk or even hardware test to verify it. The Event Viewer is a general location in Windows itself where applications and Windows can write status events when for instance a service is started/stopped, an application is launched or closed, if a backup was successful, who logged on to the system, etc… It also contains events for when an application unexpectedly stopped or crashed. The Event Viewer can be a great help to determine the root cause of an issue or to find new leads in case regular troubleshooting of Outlook didn’t bring any results. Open the Event Viewer There are quite a few number of ways to open it. Some of them are; Start-> Run; eventvwr Start-> Control Panel (classic mode)-> Administrative Tools-> Event Viewer Start-> Control Panel (Windows XP)-> Performance and Maintenance-> Event Viewer Start-> Control Panel (Windows Vista)-> System and Security-> Event Viewer Start-> Control Panel (Windows 7)-> System and Maintenance-> Event Viewer Right click on (My) Computer is the Start Menu or in Explorer and choose Manage. Expand System Tools to see Event Viewer. C:\Windows\System32\eventvwr.msc Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10; Start-> type; Event Viewer Windows 8 (but not in Windows 8.1)Start Screen-> type; Event Viewer-> choose Settings-> View event logsTo directly search in Settings, you can also press Windows Key+W In Windows 8 and Windows 10Right click on the Windows icon in the bottom left and choose Event Viewer. In Windows 8 and Windows 10Windows Key+X-> Event Viewer Locating the Outlook entries Outlook logs its entries to the Application log. Upon expanding the Event Viewer in Windows XP, you’ll see this log directly. In Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10, you’ll have to expand the “Windows Logs” folder first as well. In the “Source” column the application that created the Event is listed. You’ll have to look for “Outlook” here. Scroll until you have found the most recent entry or entries which were written during your last Outlook session. If you are having issues finding the correct event entry (for instance when you want to see if the same happened a few days ago), then you can also apply a filter to the log to only show the entries with the Event Level “Error” and Event Source being Outlook.
