Recent improvements in hardware and software design reduce parity problems as imprecise data parity error well. BackgroundWhat is a processor or memory parity error?Parity checking is the storage of an extra binary digit (bit) in order to represent the parity (odd or even) of a small amount of computer data (typically one byte) while that data is stored in memory. The parity value calculated from the stored data is then compared to the final parity value. If these two values differ, this indicates a data error, and at least one bit must have been changed due to data corruption.Within a computer system, electrical or magnetic interference from internal or external causes can cause a single bit of memory to spontaneously flip to the opposite state. This event makes the original data bits invalid and is known as a parity error.Such memory errors, if undetected, may have undetectable and inconsequential results or may cause permanent corruption of stored data or a machine crash. There are many causes of memory parity errors, which are c

The cards cause Windows to bluescreen with a memory parity error, very soon after startup (one card does it immediately, the other after a minute or so). It's definitely the cards, and we've tried it with multiple Windows 7 Optiplex 760/780 machines running both 32 and 64 bit Win7 - they all crash.Has anyone else had this experience? These parity error interrupt have a VIA chipset, as do most of the other inexpensive options available. We are somewhat constrained in our choices as these machines require low profile PCI cards, and do not have spare PCI-E slots. I did find a different Syba card, somewhat more expensive, but with a TI chipset, which we might try ordering. We've also tried some older TI chipset cards and they seem to work (but don't fit properly as they are full heigh PCI cards - we had to unscrew the metal backplate to get them to fit)..Didn't think Firewire PCI cards would be so problematic in this day and age. sryan2k1 Ars Legatus Legionis et Subscriptor Tribus: Ann Arbor, MI Registered: Nov 28, 2002Posts: 34339 Posted: Sat Mar 12, 2011 10:56 am Quote:Didn't think Firewire PCI cards would be so problematic in this day and age.You are using a non-mainstream protocol on a dead bus, why would you expect it to work well? continuum Moderator et Subscriptor Tribus: California Registered: Jul 1, 1999Posts: 79135 Posted: Sat Mar 12, 2011 4:25 pm Well, if the TI chipset ones work, use those? (or try the low-profile ones and see if they work)I forget what chipset is on the Firewire cards Dell ships with those boxes as a factory option... bump this thread on Monday and I'll try to remember to check? Also are you guys on the latest BIOS from Dell?
