won't it boot from a startup disk either? And if it's the mobo, why do I even get the initial bios screen? brucedl, Oct 1, 2002 #1 Sponsor Rockn Joined: Jul 29, 2001 Messages: 21,335 Could be any number of things, but my guess would be the IDE controller on the motherboard or the drive itself. I had 32 meg some time ago, and tried with each one by itself. Same result. This "Parity" error is not a memory issue. Also tried pulling the hard drive and just booting to disk-same results. Gateway quoted a flat rate of $299 to fix the thing, but I'm wondering how h

Pci System Error Solution
I'm having trouble with my computer. When I orignally built the computer I kept getting PCI Parity Error whenever I turned pci parity error on bus/device/function 0000h on the PC but for some reason when I re-installed Windows XP it went away for a while. On sunday I started to get the error again and everytime I turned it on the error https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-pci-parity-error-on-bus-device-function-000h.97885/ would appear 3-5 times before it would boot into Windows. Now it will no longer boot into Windows but the BIOS logo still shows. My motherboard is a Gigabyte X38-DQ6 if that helps. I have tried clearing CMOS but no luck I have tried to boot from disc and make sure the Hard Drives are OK but still no luck. It may even be as simple as changing a http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/262012-29-parity-error value of something in the MB Intelligent Tweaker since the it is overclocked. Is the motherboard on it's way out? Thanks in advance More about : pci parity error jboyinabox 22 September 2010 18:37:04 I have tried another video card but still had the same problem. The basic way to constantly monitor this is to add a nineth bit. Then the circuits that put the data on the bus count the number of bits in the word and if it is an even number of bits usually adds a parity bit so the word contains an odd number of bits. This is called "odd parity". Even parity can be used, the the usual convention is odd. Then once the data arrives, it's checked. If you picked up or lost a bit, the system flags an error. Yes, there's an obvious flaw in the system. What if you pickup or lose two bits? Parity

If this were a desktop computer, you could pci parity error strip down the PCI devices and possibly locate and replace the offending device or its driver. On a laptop computer, especially the Presario 1200 that is now 8-9 years old and has no removeable components except the HD, optical drive, and RAM, it is often impossible to track this down. This then becomes the generic "mainboard failure". You might find a replacement mainboard on eBay, but first you will have to identify exactly which of the many sub-species of the Presario 1200 you have, and that can be difficult since there were so many versions manufactured by Compaq. The serial number tag on the bottom might have the model (1236, 1248, etc.) Frankly, I would remove the hard disk and attempt to save your data by connecting it to a desktop and copying off the files. IMO, the 1200 has reached the end of its life. Q Quaoar, Feb 20, 2006 #2 Advertisements Show Ignored Content Want to reply to this thread or ask your own question?
