I have imported a mp4 video, the sound works but the video doesn't appear. I have done some research and it seems .mp4 and .AAC formats don't agree with PT, I've installed Perian which hasn't helped. I have looked into converting the .mp4 file to something like a .mov or .avi. I have tried MPEG Streamclip to convert it but all I get is 'error

can't prepare movie'. Members have recommended QT 7 Pro to convert files but with research it doesn't function with the QT 10 player? (Thread: Working with video: What tools can’t you live without?) Has anyone got any ideas, I have no video editing software is it worth buying something to help with these issues? Thanks! Edit: Would buying something like Premiere, Final Cut Pro or Vegas be easier to deal with? Only you have to pay an extra 30 bucks to make QT7 the Pro version. Also, in my experience on its 7 and 8 versions, Pro Tools doesn't like compressed video/audio - 9 is certainly no exception. –Justin Huss Dec 19 '10 at 20:20 @Justin I have tried to use QTX to re save the video but it only exports the audio and not the video any ideas? –Adrian Millington Dec 19 '10 at 20:45 have you tried another clip with MPEG Streamclip to see if the problem is with the clip? –Hector Lee Dec 20 '10 at 3

You have to be able to open that file in quicktime, in order for it to work in mpegstreamclip. There are some plugins that you might be able to download, but none of them are free So you can open that video in other programs, such as virtualdub, or players such as MPC , but not mpegstreamclip. It looks strange because for some time I was able to play .avi clip compressed with "XviD ISO MPEG-4" but not the avi file compressed with "S-Mpeg 4 version 2". Then I opened Xvid file in Avidemux and since then it all messed up in Stream Clip. It only opens audio, vido is blank. You should be able to open it up in vdub, if you have mp42 enabled in the ffdshow vfw configuration (gold icon) You should be able to play in a direc

PRINT • NEXT >> • Can't import or convert .mp4 Files by Matt Tureck on Jan 25, 2011 at 8:49:32 pm Hey folks, I've had issues dealing with a few video files I've gotten as handouts at press conferences. Both were named as .mp4 files, under "get info" they're in a h264 AAC codec. When I import it into FCP and try to play it, I get an error message saying "General Error", and then "Error, Out of Memory" The file plays fine in Quicktime, but when I try to export it into a new format, it gives me an error message saying, "movie contains an incorrect time value" It also plays fine in Streamclip, but when I try and export to a new format, it gives me an "Error, can't prepare movie: message. I'm running a top of the line mac with all the latest operating systems and updates. Thanks..any ideas?Return to posts indexReport Post •Re: Can't import or convert .mp4 Filesby Olin Padilla on Jan 25, 2011 at 8:58:47 pmTry doing it from MPEG Streamclip as a batch. Probably won't help though. It sounds like your files might be corrupt. Usually in this situation I will panic a little, then try every possible transcoding tool I have. Something will eventually work.Return to posts indexReport Post•Re: Can't import or convert .mp4 Filesby Brian DeViteri on Jan 25, 2011 at 11:11:10 pm- Have you installed Perian? - Have you tried VLC? - What's the origin of the MP4? Client compressions, DSLR footage, or something else? - Can you export just the video in one pass and then just the audio in a separate pass? - Is the file corrupted at all? - Are you able to try on a Windows machine to convert to anything? Few options... Try opening with a program like Adobe After Effects and render into a new file format/codec. This may or may not work, depending on the file and the nature of the issue. If the file PLAYS fine in QT and other programs, last resort would be to do a live streaming capture of your computer screen of the file playing and then trying to work with that capture (such as iShowU). Does MediaInfo show any additional information about the file? What is strange is that you can play (so the codec is available) but no export those clips from QT or MPGStreamclip (Perhaps som
